Lakemoor-Lilymoor Alma Hueckstaedt 385-5689 Civil Defense Members On Duty During Storm During the emergency of Thursday night, June 20, all the Civil Defense Corps of tak&ftoor turned out for the caltwforty. There were trees and pftfyfer lines down. Ralph Freeman directed traffic, Jim Johnson removed trees that had fallen. Herman Freeman drove the civil defense car on patrol through Laksmoor and Lilymoor. Other* taking part in the action were Richard Hyatt, Walter Schappsrt, Ron Freeman, Brian Baker, Preston Wilcox, Leroy Sennet t and Margaret Hatch all of Lakemoor and John McCaulley of Sunnyside. Public Service sent help due to the downed power lines. The street barricades that were just built recently were put to very good use. When it was all over, Nora Schappert made a large pot of coffee and served sweet rolls to the crew. Both President Hyatt and Walter Schappert are very proud of the Civil Defense group and wish to thank all those who took part in the activities. FALSE ALARM During all the excitement, fear, and activities involved in Thursday's storm, some thoughtless person called out the fire department on a false alarm. I often wonder, as I imagine many other people do at a time like that, what makes some people think they are helping a cause when all they are doing is hindering progress. Let's save the emergency calls for emergencies and not for the thrill of hearing a siren, someone's life may be at stake and need the facilities and they would not be available to them. A VISIT WITH GRANDPARENTS Richard Polinski, Jr., grandson of Herb and Marge Polinski, spent a week on vacation with them before moving to Ladysmith, Wis. GUESTS As Richard Hyatt and his mother, Marie, sat eating dinner one evening last week, they were surprised when a camper drove up to their home. When the passengers arrived at their door, the Hyatts were very surprised to see relatives they hadn't seen for years. They were Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Kostelicky of Arizona. It had been about ten years since they had last seen Mrs. Kostelicky (Gertrude) and about thirty years since they had seen Mr. Kostelicky. Perhaps a few Lakemoor folks will remember the Kostelickys as former residents. BIRTHDAY SURPRISE An impromptu surprise party was held at the home of Cherie and Dick Mumma on the night of the eighteenth for me. I'm told it was put together at the last minute. I sat on the back steps when everyone broke out singing "Happy Birthday" while Laurie Hertel walked across the lawn with a lighted birthday cake. I was speechless. Also attending were Rusty Hueckstaedt, Steve, Chris and Scott Mumma, Nancy, Chuck, Bobbie and Tracy Hueckstaedt, and Michael and Patty Hertel. Also on hand before the party were Marilyn Ryan, Wanda Minton and Sherry, although they didn't stay long. BACK AGAIN Back in the neighborhood again - this time to stay on as residents are Dick and Cherie Mumma and boys - Steve, Chris and Scott. They moved in on Saturday, June 15. Slowly but surely things are getting to look a little better and there's a wider path to walk thru now. Welcome back_ to the neighborhood Mummas. See you next week. Bat Fact The fishing bat of Central America and the Caribees use echo-location "sonar' to find food. When the bat locates small fish at the surface, it skims the water and spears its prey with strong talons. *• m. >*\ \ 'X: 'U$£- In town or in the saddle, nothing beats the comfort and good looks of Levi's Saddleman --cut straight from the knee to fit easy over boots.
