Here we go again. Round and round she goes and where she stops nobody kiic.vs What are we saying? Stops - we hardly know him to start. Before column time rolls around again, it will be July. June went someplace We know not where. July brings the American Legion Carnival and the Fourth celebration. It also brings "Hookey Day" on July 10. The All-Star baseball game then comes along. And it will probably bring hot weather. Some like it hot. We like it cold. That goes for weather. When it comes to our drinks, give us cold milk and hot coffee. No in between. As we watch ball games, our thoughts go back to the days when pitchers were expected to go the distance. Nowadays the familiar report is - "There's activity in the bull pen." Our greatest claim to fame: Eddie Bimbo had waitress Judy move us from the back room to a table up front so we could watch the Lawrence Welk show. When we called at the Plaindealer office Tuesday afternoon, our Girl Friday Marie asked, "How is the Cub game going?" We had no idea - much to her disgust. "You are just like Bart!" Bart is her husband and a White Sox fan. Such popularity must be deserved. So many people are concerned about Mrs. George (Florence) Harker, hoping and praying for her early recovery from illness. We are happy to report that Florence is . making great strides toward good health. We have voiced our protest to Fred Meyer about that sickly green color on the Green Street parking lines. Jim Miller and his artists must have spilled something into the paint can. And it wasn't the color of a shamrock. The game could have gone either way with a key hit in any of 3 innings. Eleven runners were stranded by the local nine which proved to be their downfall. Ray Williams continued to swing the bat effectively, reaching base 4 times with 2 walks, a single and a double, and he played his usual fine defense. Kevin Worm pitched another strong game but the young team made several lapses in the field. The young team appears to be improving and, hopefully, the future scores will reflect the boys' coming of age. The League standings after 2 months of play are as follows. 1. Du-Ro Duffers 32^ 2. They jumped to an early lead as Kevin Worm lined a double to left center and Ray Williams drove a shot up the middle in the first inning to jump to an early lead which was never relinquished. Dave Wickenkamp allowed only 3 hits while striking out 12. Dale Urbanski called and caught an excellent game and threw out 2 Lake-in-the-Hills base runners in key situations. Anthony Bianchi of McHenry, a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Aux. Flotilla 3-2 has been named the flotilla's Safe Boating Week Committee Chairman for McHenry. He urges local boaters to have their craft safety checked by a Courtesy Examiner from the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Most launching ramps on the Chain of Lakes and Lake Michigan will have examiners waiting to check your craft. Boats passing the examination will be issued decals which show they meet Coast Guard equipment requirements and in addition, the higher Auxiliary safety standards. Bianchi said that the purpose of SAFE BOATING WEEK is to point out to pleasure boaters the basic rules and regulations for safety a f loa t and the need fo r maintaining a safe and properly equipped boat. Going boating without the proper equipment isn't just foolish - it's also against the law.
