WOMEN OF THE MOOSE INSTALLATION The installation of the Women of the Moose 1348 of McHenry was held Saturday evening, »June 29, at the McHenry Moose Lodge. Ila Hogan was installed as recorder for the year 1974-75. It was Ila's privilege to be awarded the Paul P. Schmitz award. It was as Honorary Mooseheart High School Diploma 1974 Nominee. Co­ worker . Ila Hogan was recommended for this honor by McHenry Chapter No. 1348 for outstanding service to the Women of the Moose. IOWA VISITORS Richard and Phyllis Zell and son, David, visited friends in Elma, Iowa, last week for a few days. HOUSEHUNTING Darlene and Larry Lehmkuhl went house hunting down in Atlanta, Ga. They found a great big house for their enlarged family in Stone Mt. near Atlanta. This little vacation trip of house hunting means that Larry has been promoted and will be transferred to the Atlanta area in the future. We will sure miss this friendly family and hate to see them leave our small town. The children didn't get to go with Darlene and Larry house hunting but instead they got to really enjoy their grandparents and relatives in Clinton, Iowa, and Morris, 111. BIRTHDAYS' Happy birthday to Nancy Bowman and Scott Sonnemaker (way over there in England) on July 6. Do hope that you both have a very happy day. This is it for this week seems the stork was on strike, suppose9?9 LET'S TOUR ENGLAND WITH ILA HOGAN I left O'Hare Airport on Sunday, May 19, and arrived in London at Heathrow Airport at 7a.m. We were over a half hour late and it took another 45 minutes to disembark and go through customs. Mary, Earl and Scott had gotten up at 2 a.m. to drive to the airport and they were glad to see that I had finally made it as they had gotten to the airport about 5:45. After coffee and "buns" we started for their home which is about 75 miles from London in the East Anglia area. My first experience on riding on the left side of the road was really scary as their American station wagon seemed to be on' the middle line all the time. Because of the lack of expressways it takes about 3 times as long to cover the same number of miles in England as it would in the states. It took 2 hours and 45 minutes to get to Mary's home in Freckenham, Suffolk County. Mary lives in an old Mano House - The Freckenham House which was once the home of Lady Hyde, a Lady In Waiting to the Queen Mother. Princess Margaret and Queen Elizabeth frequently stayed in the house with the Queen Mother when they were little girls. The home was sold after the war and has recently been converted into four, four- bedroom homes, each with separate entrances off the front courtyard. Many of the grand features are gone but there are still tennis courts, a greenhouse, many separate garages plus six newly built ones which will accommodate our "huge American cars" there is even a small stable at the edge of the woods. There are about eight acres left with the home. Mary and Earl have a big garden by the nursery in the woods and a small kitchen garden by the greenhouse. The big house is quite impressive as you come through the iron gates but according to Mary she would rather live on the base so that she wouldn't have to be a full time chauffeur. May 21 we drove to RAF Mildenhall about 8 miles away where Earl is stationed with the 10th Airborne Command and Control Squadron, going through the villages of Worlington, Mildenhall and Beck Row to get there. After getting the mail and running several errands and just seeing some of the base, we drove to Newmarket a famous horse racing town-Kings and Queens for centuries have by Linda Keyfauver Helping Paws rummage sale will be held in July rather than in September this year. After lunch in Newmarket, we drove on to Audley End -- the name of the mansion we visited and also the name of the village where it is located. It was a royal palace in the time of King Charles II. The collection at Audley End of paintings, porcelain, antique furniture, rare books, etc. was beautiful. The house is one- fourth of its original plan which was copied from Versailles - four great halls in a square -- only one of the four wings remain but it is still very lovely -- the remaining hall contained over 80 rooms including a banquet hall that could serve 400 hundred guests a formal dinner! Before leaving the estate we stopped at the former stables which looked like a mansion itself -- this is presently occupied but is being renovated into a museum of country items - antique farm implements, h o r s e e q u i p m e n t , etc. We took a different route home through some small farm villages and at times the road was just wide enough for Mary's station wagon. If there is no question of the mother ever returning to her family, the little ones can be cared for, but iL is a time consuming job! The babies should be placed in a cardboard box lined with newspaper and with a soft cloth for a "nest" If the weather turns cool, the box can be placed on a heating pad turned on low for short periods of time. The younger and more helpless the babies, the more frequent the feedings should be. This is a very important factor- in success in hand rearing small animals. Feeding can be done with an eye dropper or with a small nursing bottle (available at some local pet shops and' at veterinarians).
