Lay Persons Week Planned A Lay Person's week has been planned at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, 404 North Green street, McHenry. During the week of July 8 through the 14, eighteen lay people will lead the congregation in three different worship services. Thursday, July 11, at 8 p.m. Terry Fluger, Martha Finkbeiner, Glen Anderson, Tony Corcoran, Midge Teuber and Sue Horn will lead the congregation in a summer midweek service. Sunday, July 14, at the 8:30 a.m. worship service, Leah Nuss, Ken Schopp, Sandra Polewaczyk, Pam Ryden, James Boyd and Don Williams will conduct the worship service. At the 10:30 a.m. worship service on that Sunday, Gail Anderson, Virginia Karls, Julie Jessup, Clarence Young, Norm Macdonald, Jr., and Roland Hughes will lead the parish in worship. One Sunday each year at the parish the laymen and laywomen participate in and accept responsibility for all aspects of the worship service including the preaching of the sermon. The theme of the sermon for the three services will be, "Be a Responsible Person!" Degree At DePaul RICHARD L. SAGERS JOINS NAVY - Rich L. Sagers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard G. Sagers of McHenry, joined the Navy June 28, and is now in basic training in California. Navy Fireman Apprentice Gary L. Rhoton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eimel B. Rhoton of 719 S. Fisher road, McHenry, visited Rhodes, Greece and Naples, Italy, as a crewmember of the combat cargo ship USS Concord. While deployed to the Mediterranean, Rhoton and his shipmates are providing other units of the U.S. Sixth fleet with frpsh and frozen foods, spare parts and other supplies. The Concord is scheduled to return to Norfolk, Va., in September. Gary D. Johnson of McHenry enlisted in the United States Air Force recently. He was guaranteed his job of missile systems analyst specialist prior to enlistment under the new Air Force guaranteed jobs program.
