NIPC Recommends Federal Fund For Town Plan The Northeastern Illinois Planning commission (NIPC) has recommended $10,000 federal support to develop a land use plan for Algonquin township in McHenry county. NIPC conditionally endorsed a federal assistance application for planning funds submitted by the Algonquin Township Inter-Community Planning council, an organization of nine municipalities established to do planning at the township scale. Municipalities represented in the Planning Council are Algonquin, Barrington Hills, Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox River Valley Gardens, Fox River Grove, Lake-in-the-Hills, Lakewood, and Oakwood Hills. Commission endorsement of the planning proposal is in keeping with its strong support of local planning and its support of intergovernmental c o o p e r a t i o n a m o n g communities. NIPC Planning C o m m i t t e e C h a i r m a n Constance Zimmermann praised the Inter-Community council's planning proposal as "ambitious" and "deserving of support." "This is an example for more cooperative planning, at either the township level or at any other sub-regional scale where local officials recognize they are one member in an area c o m m u n i t y , ' ' M r s . Zimmermann said. "I hope to see similar applications from other councils ot govern ments." As a condition to its endorsement, the commission asked that the council's work program give greater emphasis to planning coordination with NIPC, with the Barrington Area Council of Governments and the McHenry County Regional Planning commission. The planning grant would be administered by tlu Illinois Department of L,ocal Government Affairs.
