Farm Bureau District Softball 1 Day Meet At Sterling Aug. 6 • PAGE 7 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY, JULY U, 1914 Pioneer Center at McCullom Lake will use $600 given it by members of the McHenry County Bowling Proprietors Association to purchase equipment. Money was provided by bowlers taking part in a cooperative effort with many bowling proprietors in McHenry county. Association also gave $229 to the McHenry County Bowling Association to go to the Bowlers Victory League, aiding disabled veterans with a recreation program. (DON PEASLEY PHOTOGRAPHY) With three state championships to defend, McHenry County Farm Bureau members interested in softball are looking ahead to the district meet in a one-day battle for survival at Sterling on Tuesday, Aug. 6. Last year McHenry county's 35'ers, All-County and Slow pitch team captured the championship in their respective divisions following strong district competition. This year 47 teams are entered In the seven classes of softball action. Larry Harris, executive secretary for the McHenry County Farm Bureau, says two busses will provide transportation at a cost of $4 per person They'll leave in time to make the first games which start at 9 a.m. on Aug. 6. Here's the rundown on when McHenry county plays: Boys' 4-H -10:45 a.m. - McHenry vs. Lake. Girls' 4-H -- 12:45 p.m. - McHenry vs. Lake. Young Adult - 12:45 p.m. - McHenry vs. DeKalb. Slow Pitch - McHenry has a bye and faces the winner of Ogle-Whiteside at 12:45 p.m. All-County - 10:45 a.m. - Cook vs. McHenry. Girls' Open - 10:45 a.m. - Whiteside vs. McHenry. 35'ers - 12:45 p.m. -- McHenry vs. Kendall. Softball Throw At City Park Friday >1 County Farm Bureau Swimmers And Tennis • Players In Festival Fifty-six swimming entries and a dozen tennis entries will provide McHenry County Farm Bureau with added participation as it accumulates points in the 1974 Illinois Farm Sports Festival. This is the first year for tennis participation. The state meet will be August 3 at Illinois State University. The swimming finals will be the same day at the ISU campus. The girls went out in four different groups. The Winners in group one were Theresa Dejka, Doris Freund, Shari Scott and Mickey Walter with an even par 37. Group two had a two tie with Nanici McAuliffe, Mary DeBrecht, Agatha Drohan and Georgette Calcese tied with Maureen Doherty, Betty Kirk, Diane Derby and Pat Mays. Both groups came with 3 over par 40's. The third group also had a two way tie. MaryJane Mogdans, Gretchen Garrets, and Judy Schmitt tied with Cindy Day, Dolores Strossner, Ellen Leonard and Diane Fuhler with 42's. The fourth group also had a tie. Marilyn Ehlen, Betty Smith and Sandy Neff tied with Madeline Wija and Stephanie Truax with 52's. The standings with two weeks left in match play are as follows: 1. Weathervane Yarns 411£ 2. DuRo Duffers 40 3. McHenry Roofing 33V2 On Friday, July 26, the city of McHenry Summer Recreation Program will be holding a Softball Throw tournament. This contest will be open to all children between the ages of 6 and 15 who attend McHenry public or parochial schools. There will be three age groups: 6 to 8, 9 to 11, and 12 to 15. All contestants will be allowed five throws. Each will be measured for distance and the longest throw will win first prize. A sixteen inch softball will be used by all entrants. The tourney will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the city park on Pearl Street. Persons wishing to enter should fill out the form found below and send to Steve Cuda. Or you can turn it in to the park attendant on Wednesday, Thursday, or noon, Friday, at the park on Pearl Street. This is the perfect chance for girls to test their abilities against the boys. He should be a real ballplayer within the next few years. In the 9 to 11 bracket Mike Sabatka won by sinking 6 shots. His sister, Debbie, was a close second with four shots made. Mike Leon was the winner of the 6 to 8 age group when he sunk 5 of 10 free throws. All contestants had an enjoyable time and it is hoped that next year's tourney is as successful. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD City Band In Sixth Concert Mrs. Mary Ann Wegener will be guest soloist with the McHenry stage band this Thursday evening in its sixth concert of the summer season. Mrs. Wegener, a soprano, has long been a popular vocalist in the community, is a soloist at St. Patrick's church and with the McHenry Choral club. She will be accompanied by Mrs. Mary Ann Sharp. Spring Grove Man Drowns In Fox Lake The body of Frank Nadolske, 43, of 1020 West street, Spring Grove, was recovered from Fox Lake Friday, July 19. Nadolske was reported to have dived off his cabin cruiser about 250 feet east of Hide-a- Point resort, on Indian Point, the previous Wednesday night. A search was abandoned after a few hours, then resumed Thursday. His death was the twenty- fourth by drowning in Lake county this year. The first and only known animal to enter the U.S. without human aid is the cattle egret of India, Spain, and Africa.
