Ms. Jean Kintgen, former McHenry resident and Joe's cousin, chaperoned him on the trip. Among the many activities the boys and their chaperones attended were the Governor's luncheon, a paddle- boat outing and tour of Tom Sawyer's cave and Mark Twain's home. They were also honored guests at the fireworks display and in the gala parade preceding the contest. Each boy was presented a personalized gold plaque for participation in the annual event. Besides the honor of representing his state in this memorable experience, Joe said "it was a lot of fun!" The event is being sponsored by the McHenry Shores Social Club. BAZAAR It has come to the attention of the social club that many of our children in the village do not have the opportunity or the large finances for Christmas shopping. This plus the opportunity for the social club to make a small profit brought about the idea of having a bazaar. Ideas are now being collected for usable and decorative items that could be made by the social club. If you have an item that you feel would fit into the project, please see to it that Mrs Lillegard has a sample by August 1. All samples will be returned within two weeks. All sample items that are accepted for the bazaar by the committee will be funded by the social club. Larger items or one of a kind items are asked to be donated at a later date. Why not plan on making one or two extra items when you start your Christmas sewing projects. All proceeds go to the social club who in turn helps fund the various activities of the community.
