Our thanks to Pastor Mclntyre for letting us use the church grounds, he was extremely nice about the whole picnic. Pastor Mclntyre visited the picnic to see how everyone was getting along About half the people showed up that were invited, nine families to be more exact. I was sorry more people couldn't make it down to the corner to enjoy themselves. TheBellaks, Melones, Walshes, Hunts, Hoffmans, Marcottes, Howards, Cramers, and I,aura Clewis were the families who attended the picnic. The fathers played softball against their sons which was really a fun game which all enjoyed. Then the women played softball with a couple of their daughters which was really a blast Terri Melone, Debbie Hoffman, Ginny Howard, Nancy Marcott and Handy Hunt were the best women fielders and hitters as well Sandy Hunt and Stacy did a fine job of pitching also I might add The game was really super!! Thanks to all the families who came down Bob Tire rupplied the grill, and garbage barrels, and a lot of fun for the children as well. Jerry Bellak coached the boys in baseball and did a fine job. If everybody had half as much fun as we did they had a ball, until next time- NEIGHBORS VACATION TOGETHER Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Walsh and their two children, Michael and Mary Irene, and Mr. and Mrs. Ron Melone and three of their four children, Dawn, Michelle, and Tony, recently returned from one week's vacation in Arkansas. A week of beautiful weather, swimming and fishing, relaxing and enjoying life at its best was how the Walshes and Melones spent their vacation. MAILBOXES Parents in general please tell your children to stay away from other people's mailboxes in Eastwood Manor. I received a phone call recently stating that several children would ride by on their bicycles and open and close mailboxes. I 'm not sure if everyone is aware that it is still against the law. Please take the time to explain this to your children. Thank you!. SAFETY FIRST Recently I received a phone call from a very nice gentlemen who said he agreed with my article on safety first in my first column, but asked if I might add something for him about children. The problem is this: This particular man stated that when driving through the subdivision each day he observes several children riding their bicycles, lacking the best of safety precautions or actually small children sitting in the middle of the street. As he drives by and something like this occurs he gets reprimanded by their parents when he honks his horn. He also stated that each home out here has for the most part >.» acre of land which should be enough for small children to play on instead of in the streets. So we as parents should be considerate of drivers too Now you can take it from there--. The librarian Margaret Karas invites you to visit the library on Lily l>ake Road one mile South of 120, which is open Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday, from 1-6, and on Thursday from 1-8 You might like to jot those times down for your convenience. Things not available at the library can be requested from the Northern Illinois library system, including other books, paintings, records, film strips and games. We have visited the library many times over the past few years. A nicer and more helpful librarian you seldom find. Maragaret Karas will go out of her way to help you in anyway she can. An easy way I found to get to the library is to turn left onto 120 and keep going straight until you come to the fire station where you turn right there and go straight down for about 1 mile, it 's on the corner on the left hand side of the street. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity real soon. CLEM & JETHRO MEMORIAL FOUNDATION ' Miss Darcy Marcotte recently returned from a two week tour this past Sunday, August 18. She went with John Harris, from the Clem and Jethro Memorial Foundation which is an ecology and conservation group that helps protect certain species from becoming extinct. She rode in John Harris's van, with the Timber Wolves, Judy and Fredda, and Gary, a student who recently graduated from Northwest College. They toured Bloomington, North Carolina, Washington, New York City, and Rochester, New York. Darcy met quite a few new people on the trip and had a really nice time. ENTERTAINED GUESTS Recently Mr. and Mrs George Cray from McHenry were the guests of theGeorge Marcottes for one week. The Grays recently sold their home and moved to Florida While they were in the process of getting all of their things together they stayed with the Marcottes who are their very good friends. Nancy Marcotte told me that they are a lovely couple and were wonderful house guests. The Grays' two dogs also spent the week, their names are Sandy and Impy. Good luck to Ann and George Gary in their new home in Florida. LONG DISTANCE PHONE CALL 1 received a long distance phone call 'from Lisa Hollenbaugh this morning. She used to live on Fairview Lane right here in McHenry, in our subdivision Lisa is doing tine and waiting to go back to school this fall. She said to say hi to all of her old friends in Eastwood Manor RECYCLING Did you know that every third Saturday morning of each month you can go to the Market Place in town and have your items which I 'll list recycled. The market Place is up in town by the Eagle, Hornsby's etc. Mrs Nancy Marcotte is very much involved in this and brought it to my attention the other night The items that you can bring are your old newspaper tied in bundles, catalogs, and magazines, other papers, tine cans, tin foil, glass bottles separated into plain bottles and colored bottles. If you are interested be at the Market Place on the third Saturday morning in the month where they can answer any and all of your questions. PATH TO HILLTOP Many mothers are concerned with having a paved path up to Hilltop this fall Mothers who are not at present concerned will be after the first rainfall when their children come home from school from top to toe with piud. If you are one of the interested mothers why don't we all get-together and see what the Board of Education can do to help us out. I 'm sure something can be done and it 's more than about time West Shore Beach Connie Schmidt 385-7841 Residents Will Vacation During Labor Day Weekend With the end of the summer season many people will be vacationing for the last big weekend before school starts. We are a community that hosts non-permanent residents who usually spend only the hotter and more leisurely months with us. They will be relaxing with friends and neighbors, so stop by and get acquainted if you've previously been too busy. OUR SYMPATHY Residents wish to express their sincere condolences to the Henry Thomas family on the loss of their beloved mother and grandmother, Eileen Swanson, who passed away Aug. 18. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, only last March. The Swansons had resided in our community for approximately twenty-five years and grew close to many fine neighbors. We all share your grief and offer our prayers of peace for Eileen. NEW NEIGHBORS Welcome Mike and Trudy Sorenson and their two sons, Mike, Jr., 212 years and Erich, 1 year to our subdivision. SERVICE NEWS Richard Basile, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Basile of 5418 Woodland drive, has just completed officer's training school and will be promoted from an army private in the military police to an officer in the same branch. Rich has been traveling extensively in Germany itself and knows a great deal about the country now. He sent a beautiful silk pillow to his mom and will be happy to return home in another year.
