McHenry county input was apparent in the state platform which endorsed a concept originated in Illinois by State Rep Cal Skinner, Jr., one of Jourdan's delegates. In addition to reaffirming support of the circuit breaker tax relief for senior citizens that governor Ogilvie initiated and Skinner expanded during the past session, the platform supports and urges the "enactment of the real estate tax deferral for senior citizens program as proposed by the Republican legislators." The bill in question was originated by Skinner's House Revenue subcommittee that held hearings in McHenry's Whispering Oaks, passed by the House, but defeated in the Senate. Others attending were Slate Comptroller and Mrs. George Lindberg, Algonquin Township Assessor Forest B Hare, GOP candidate for Superintendent of Educational Service Region Ed Hall and his wife of Woodstock, Precinct Committeeman and Mrs. Ray Reynolds of Crystal Lake and Mrs. Jourdan. The McHenry county delegates were among 1,500 people packing the convention Radio log Daily log Leads machine 9,717 865 1,118 TICKETS FOR PARKING METERS: Money from meters $1,702.99 Tickets written 2,250 hall when State Chairman Don Adams of Springfield said, "I hope that in this August of 1974 you are as proud to be a Republican as I am." Senator Charles Percy said, "I think our state-wide candidates and our county candidates can now go ahead progressively and address themselves to the issues and the problems they are seeking ..without the feeling that Watergate is going to encumber their candidacies." Percy also announced that he has put further plans for seeking the presidential nomination in 1976 "in the deep freeze " In addition, the convention p a s s e d r e s o l u t i o n s congratulating Gerald Ford and pledging support for his fight against inflation, commending Nixon for ending the Vietnam war, terminating the draft, returning power to the states and making impressive progress in foreign affairs and pledging that never again will a separate group of individuals conduct > a p r e s i d e n t i a l c o m p a l g n independent from the Republican party organization as did the Committee to Re* Elect the President. H/RE A [ PRIVATE I DETECTIVE. PUNCH LINE OF THE WEEK VIEW JAPANESE PAGODA - Ernie Olsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Olsen of 3411 N. Cove Court, McHenry, has returned after spending eleven months in Japan as a student on a Rotary scholarship. Since then he has assembled the model of a pagoda which he sent home. The pagoda is part of the temple ground where the Buddhist monks often pray. Ernie says every home has its own shrine, with tombstone tablet, and before this shrine food and drink offerings are made. Japanese followers believe the spirits control their every action, 'and must be sustained. The young American student believes it is this very belief that accounts, in part, for the honor and responsibility which characterizes people of the country. Shown above, from left, admiring the pagoda are Erik, 13, Ernie, Becky, 8, Kim, 14, and Mrs. Olsen. We can enjoy the Presence of God in a special way when we attend church. When we turn our atten tion fully upon Him, when we elevate our thinking to those matters which hold eternal value, God speaks in the warmest of tones. Yes, God knows us. He calls us by name. He never forgets. How embarrassing to recognize a person's face but be unable to recall his name! It happens to most of us occasionally.
