These two clubs staged a red hot contest on the local diamond a few weeks ago at which time McHenry was returned the winner bv a score of 4-3. John Hackett were Milwaukee visitors FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Sept. 6, 1934) A total of seventy marriage licenses were issued during the month of August as against sixty-seven for the same month last year. Vivian Raven, 17 years old, sustained three fractured ribs and bruises on the head and left side when she fell twenty feet in a silo, striking a concrete floor. She had climbed a ladder inside the silo and lost her hold. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thompson and Mr. and Mrs^ H.C Hughes returned home from a fishing trip to O'Kee, Wis. The two McHenry couples left in the camp car made by Mr. Hughes which is a miniature house on wheels of the trailer type. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Patzke have moved from the Hendricks place on Center street to the Vogt house on Main street. The West McHenry State Bank today received from the Federal Deposit Insurance corporation at Washington the official signs which will hang at all receiving windows as visible evidence that the depositors of this institution are insured. The West McHenry State bank is one of more than 14,000 licensed banks in the country which are receiving these signs. Insured banks are able to offer protection to their depositors up to $5,000 TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Sept. 15, 1949) Jack Ren of West McHenry was treated at the Woodstock hospital last week for cuts and bruises incurred in an accident on his farm. Twenty-one stitches were also required to close a cut inside the mouth. The sympathy of their family and friends is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Young in the loss of their infant daughter, Jill Clarice, who died Sept. 8 in the Woodstock hospital. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Sept. 10, 1964) Nickolas T. Mueller, 85, died Sept 3 at his home on Parkway avenue. He was a retired board marker for a stock brokerage firm in Chicago. Alyce Shay this past week opened a new business, Shay's Music World on Green street. She will specialize in piano and organ instruction and the firm will also carry records, sheet music and musical accessories. Mrs. Shay will be affiliated with the Hammond Organ company. At St. Patrick's church Saturday Sept. 5 Miss Jean C. O'Brien of McHenry became the bride of Dr. Dermot Fleming of Delavan, Wis. The officiating clergymen for the nuptial rite were Rev. Charles R. O'Brien, brother of the bride, Rev. Edward C. Coakley and Rev. Eugene Parker. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Stilling will observe their silver wedding anniversary Sunday Sept. 13 with a reception to be held at the Johnsburg Community club. Rajesh Aiwa entered freshman studies at M.C.H.S. on Tuesday of this week. He was born in India but has been making his home here since last June. Rajas, as he is known to his friends, is the son of Vasant Aiwa recently transferred to this area as a salesman for a wholesale food company and Dr. Rathna Aiwa lady physician who joined the staff of McHenry hospital this summer. Robert W. Burk, 47, a Chicago man drowned in Fox River near Johnsburg on Sunday. Ask Volunteers For St. Jude's Hospital Drive Sept. 21 and 22 are the designated dates for St. Jude Children's Research hospital annual residential drive, covering all of Chicago and its surrounding areas. This year's March chairman is Bob Dearborn who, along with Danny Thomas, St. Jude Children's Research hospital founder, is asking for volunteers to donate a few hours of their time to help with this drive. The team of marchers bringing in the highest amount from each district will be invited to a congratulatory breakfast with Dearborn. Interested persons can join in the fight against catastrophic childhood diseases by calling St . Jude's area headquarters at 848-4712 to submit your name as a volunteer marcher.
