Outs ide McHenry and County Lake County Judy Herdrich Wed Saturday Judy Herdrich and Lawrence Kulp, who met while attending Quincy college, were married in St. Mary's Catholic church Saturday, Aug. 31, by the Rev. Joseph Kulak. Special music at the 2:30 afternoon services was presented by soloist Marion Nelson and organist Francie Weigle Miss Herdrich is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Herdrich of 1018 N. River road, McHenry, and Mr. Kulp is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Kulp of 1227 State street, Alton. The dark-haired bride chose an ivory sata peau gown fashioned with a high neckline, empire waist, long full sleeves and an A-line skirt. The bodice of the gown was highlighted with white and blue Venice lace. Her chapel length illusion veil was attached to a Juliet cap. The headpiece and veil were made by Fran Herdrich. Lin Herdrich of Greenwich, Conn., attended the bride as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Judy Stankus of Chicago, Sally Hogan of Homewood, Mary Kulp of Alton, Nancy Williams of Alton, Cindy Bolger of McHenry and Colleen Jackson of Woodstock. Little Stephanie Herdrich of Mount Prospect was the flower girl. The attendants were attired in light blue floral gowns styled with empire waists, short puffed sleeves, high necklines and A-line skirts. Light yellow ribbon trimmed the gowns. John Wallace of Alton served as best man. Groomsmen were Bob Saville, Don Williams and Vic Heintz, all of Alton, Mark Waninger of Peoria, Greg Becker of Fieldon and Jim Herdrich of San Francisco. David Fairchild of Malvern, Pa., served as ringbearer. For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Herdrich chose a yellow chiffon, formal length gown. The groom's mother wore a light blue crepe floor length gown. Following the ceremony, a reception for 185 guests was held at the VFW hall. Woodstock-McHenry League of Women Voters has as its representative government chairperson. Kay Hutchings (Mrs. James) of 3424 Fairway drive, McHenry She has been active in League work for two years, and this past year conducted a study on Campaign Financing within the Woodstock-McHenry league. At the July McHenry County board meeting, Mrs. Hutchings was appointed for a five-year period to the McHenry County Housing Authority. Mrs. Hutchings has been a Junior high school Social Studies teacher in Glendale Heights for five years. She has two small daughters, Amy, 3, and Emily, 1. She says her interest in housing sprang from the League study on local housing, and the presentations made at unit meetings of the Woodstock- McHenry League of Women Voters. So, wi' a goodly amount o' excitement, seasoned wi' th' nostalgia left b'hind, a fond farewell, trom Grandma Radtke Friends Honor Mary McCabe On 92nd Birthday Mrs. Mary McCabe was honored on the occasion of her ninety-second birthday Aug. 29 when friends visited her at the Pistakee Bay home, where she resides. They brought with them a birthday cake, complete with candles, and refreshments. She was presented with cards and gifts as her friends sang "Happy Birthday". Mary (Gibbs) McCabe was born and raised in McHenry, then left her home community to reside in Chicago. She returned several years ago and assisted the Sisters of Mercy at their convent on Washington street. The League supports stale permissive legislation empowering municipalities to prohibit unfair housing practices but views this as complementary to state housing legislation and not a substitute. La Leche league Tells Advantages nf i) #/•--/• _ *' I f i t fmung The monthly meeting of La Leche league will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 8 p.m. "Good Mothering through Breastfeeding" is the goal of the organization. This session will deal with the advantages of breastfeeding. The league said it would be a good opportunity for all interested in breastfeeding to acquaint themselves with the organization and obtain information of the subject. The meeting is an informal discussion between mothers who have breastfed children and persons who desire more information on the - topic. Persons attending are encouraged to ask questions to clear up any problems they might have. Along with the personal support of other mothers, there is also a lending library. In the library there are many outstanding books on breastfeeding and childbirth. Persons interested in breastfeeding or having any questions about the organization are asked to call one of the leaders. There is an open invitation to members of the medical profession in the area to attend the meetings. Members believed La Leche league could possibly be a source of information that could be used for their patients. Kitchen Band Congratulated By Governor The McHenry Senior Citizen club kitchen band was the guest of the Walworth County Fair at Elkhorn, Wis., Thursday, Aug. 29. This was the opening day of the Fair and was designated as Senior Citizens day. The band was delighted to see how many were in the audience in the grandstands before the program began, and how many more came as the program began. There was a large outdoor stage and it was the first time the kitchen band had played in the open. Members enjoyed the experience very much. The program progessed well under leadership of Dolly Mazarella, with the able assistance of pianists, Eleanor Crawford and Lucille Deitz, and the entire band. The applause at the end of each selection was most gratifying. The band was happy to have Governor Lucey come on stage and compliment and thank the band for the program, and shake hands with each member. It was the second time this season the band has been greeted by a Governor. The first time was at the Illinois State Fair at Springfield where the Kitchen Band gave an outstanding performance. The band also appeared at the Walworth County Fair at Elkhorn, Wis The band has quite a few more programs to give before the end of this season, and it has already booked a MR. AND MRS. JOHN J.SHERBERT Candlelight Service For Miss McQueeny In a candlelight service performed in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, Saturday, Aug. 31, Miss Peggy Marie McQueeny became the bride of Mr. John Joseph Sherbert. Pastor Roger Schneider officiated at the 6:30 p.m. nuptial rite which united in marriage the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick McQueeny of 3315 Fairwav drive, McHenry, and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sherbert of 2321 Southeast 15th street, Pompano, Fla. The bride's brother, Patrick McQueeny, sang "Wedding Song" with his own guitar accompaniment. Another brother, Scott, lighted the cnadelabra. The blonde bride was pretty in a white satin dress trimmed in lace and pearls. Her shoulder length veil was held in place by a pearl tiara and she carried a bouquet of daisies and roses. Miss Purcell wore a pale yellow, nylon jersey dress and the bridesmaids were in pale green. All carried white daisies. Joseph Belotta of Pompano Beach, Fla., served as best man. Ushers were Patrick McQueeny of McHenry and Darryl Einhorn of Mount Prospect. Mrs. McQueeny selected for her daughter's wedding a blue organdy and jersey dress and a white daisy corsage. Mrs. Sherbert wore a pale green, nylon jersey jacket dress and had a similar corsage. A reception for seventy persons was held at the Branded Steak House, Crystal Lake, after which the newlyweds left on a trip to the Florida Keys. They will reside at Gainsville, Fla., where the bridegroom is a senior at the University of Florida. The bride is a secretary at the same school. Both are graduates of Pompano high school, class of 1971. Children's Rights Subject Of PUP Meeting Do children have any rights at all9 Is a day care center the best thing for a child of a working parent? These and other questions will be explored at the next general meeting of Parents Without Partners, Chapter 189, Friday evening, Sept. 6, at 8:30 p.m., at the American Legion home, Woodstock and Oak streets, Crystal Lake. Marlene Dannehy, director of Friendship House Child Care center in Crystal Lake, will be the featured speaker. Her topic will be, "The Rights of Children and Day Care." Friendship House has grown from an enrollment of eight children in 1965 to its current 125 children. Ms. Dannehy, a lifelong resident of Crystal Lake and mother of five children, taught in the Headstart program for McHenry county. She has also taken many child-oriented courses and is a member of the Illinois Association for Education of Young Children, National Association for Education of Young Children, and the Early Childhood Education Council for Lake and McHenry Counties.
