Walt and Doris Low and the Freunds and Adams decided to meet in a mutual friend's backyard for an overnight camp-out last Saturday evening. NOTICE It looks as though we might be getting some relief from our exorbitant telephone bills After much persistence, Mr. Dulany, the service office manager of GTE visited Mrs. Price of Ridgeway road with a sample survey letter. Mr. Dulany wants a panel of local people along with him, to conduct the survey. Customers will be asked to vote to keep the service as it is, or to have unlimited calling to McHenry and Woodstock. Fifty percent of the people contacted must reply and two-thirds of the replies must be in favor of the plan before it will be put into effect. Since the ballot must be returned in 10 days, it's very important everyone is prompt. Cost of all the service will be listed in the survey. ABOUT TOWN Mr. and Mrs. Russell Soddy of Kenosha, Wis., spent the weekend with Mrs. Soddy's sister, Mrs. Nellie Hepburn. On Sunday they attended the Blackmon reunion at Union Grove, Wise., with everyone honored for his birthday during the past year. Aunt Nellie reported there were seventy in attendance. "The problems of the large powerboat owners and waterfront property owners as well as the fisherman in his small boat were all detailed very well, as were a few well thought out solutions, but they made it very clear that they want more thoughts and ideas from us, the concerned taxpayers "In this letter I would like to write of a thought I have concerning river front property owners At the meeting, a river dredging program was brought up to control flooding which w as very feasible except for the question of what to do with the dredgmgs. My idea is this: look around your property, how much land you lost to the river in past years, have you sink holes and the like? How about just raising your land 2 or 3 feet to prevent future flooding and delay land erosion. "How about any lowland farms close to the river" These are all potential places to put dredgings. No, you cannot build on it but you can plant grass or farm products on it. "The next step is to gather signatures simply saying I will be glad to accept, at no cost to me, river dredgings on my property. If we could get a few people in each of cities, towns, and subdivisions to collect these signatures, I am sure we could succeed "The time to act is now. If you do not think this a good idea, don't just condemn it, come up with a better one. "We are all in this together and each of us is entitled to and welcomed to voice our thoughts.
