PAGE IO-PLAINDEALER-WEDNESDAY. SEPTEMBER 25, 1974 Whispering Oaks (Whispers from the "Oaks'") Marilynn Hamilton 385-6962 Scribe Enjoys Rush Trip To Washington D.C. Your scribe enjoyed a rush trip to Washington, D.C. over Labor Day weekend to attend the preview showing of the Washington Temple of the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormon). The magnificent white Alabama marble structure with six gold spires is the sixteenth Temple to be built by the church in the world and the only Temple east of the Mississippi River. It is a breathtaking sight high on a wooded hillside overlooking the Washington beltline. The trip was a share the driving plan, shared by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Provance of Morris, and Miss Jenny Provance of Gardner. Mrs. Provance is your scribe's sister. West Shore Beach Connie Schmidt 385 7841 Conservation Club Tells Plans For Fish Derby The McCullom Lake Conservation club announced that tentative plans include a fish derby on our lake for February. A meeting will be held next month to discuss the possibilities for a variety of activities at the derby. If interested in helping with this event please contact president. Jerry Raycraft. The club was also concerned about area residents who do not comply with the lake's 7 h p. motor regulation. Large motors turn up the bottom on our shallow lake and destroy many fish beds. In addition it is dangerous to other small craft and bathers. Those violators will receive letters of disapproval and if necessary further legal action will be taken. Another concern was the landing of a sea plane on our lake. This hazard to boaters and fishermen will be reported to the proper authorities. Your support of the club will enable these plans and concerns to be carried out for the benefit of all communities surrounding McCullom Lake. FITNESS AWARDS Marian Central Catholic high school was the setting Sept. 12 for the Kennedy physical fitness program organized and presented by the United States Marine Corps. As a result of the physical fitness testing Robert Wasicak received an achievement award from the Marine Corps youth physcial fitness test with 226 points. In order to receive a certificate freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors had to reach 195 points for this award. Also Thomas Wasicak qualified for a certificate of excellence from the National Youth Physical Fitness Test with 267 points on a range beginning at 250. Both boys showed great athletic abilities and need to be highly congratulated for their awards. Nice going guys! NEW DRIVERS A car is a necessity in our area since schools, shopping and recreation are not all within walking distances. Many young men and women who turn sixteen immediately obtain driver's licenses to help ease the traveling burden for their families. Please remember that the state does not consider any new drivers experienced until seven years of driving has been completed. In addition, insurance on a new drive should be considered a necessity not only to protect him and his family, but also the other driver as well. Consider your driver's license a privilege and be a safe and happy new driver. CULINARY ART Who's the best chef in pwr subdivision?
