(Don Peasley Photography) Two new directors have been elected to serve on the board of directors of the Northeast Illinois Production Credit Association, chosen at the annual meeting last week attended by 500 farmer stock­ holders and their wives In the business session, Gene Slack, president, reported that the PCA had $8,400,000 in loans outstanding at the end of the fiscal year last June 30, compared with the previous year's total of $7;20G,000. "For every $1 invested in PCA, we have $2 behind it in the assets and reserves," Slack said. New directors are Ray Karlson, 52, Garden Prairie, and Jim Book, 46, Harvard Karlson owns a 160-acre farm northeast of Garden Prairie, he has a cash grain and livestock farm, operating a total of 665 acres. He feeds about 200 heifers and 300 hogs a year. Book is also a grain and livestock farmer, operating a 900-acre farm south of Harvard. He feeds about 1,000 cattle a year. He is the present vice president of the McHenry County Farm Bureau. Re-elected as a director is Marvin Kruckenberg, 47, Mundelein dairy farmer. He farms about 1.000 acres and has been a board member since 1971. Retiring as board members are Kenneth C. Svensen.Clinton, Wis. and Fred Stoerp, Jr., Union. Voted to served on a nominating committee to choose next year's director nominees are David Cash, Boone county; Fred J. Stilke, Lake county; and Clarence Aavang, McHenry county. Alternate nominees include Jim Nelson, Ron Weidner and John R Raabe The average doe can outrun a buck. They arc lighter, and have no antlers to hinder them. FIFTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Oct. 2, 1924) Mrs George J Buss of McHenry passed away Saturday evening at the Oak Park hospital following an operation on Friday. Planned by their two daughters a company of friends and relatives tendered Mr and Mrs. W D Wentworth of this city a very pleasant surprise on Sunday. Sept 21, the occasion being their thirtieth wedding anniversary. The losers of the "Three Table Card Club" were entertained at the home of Mrs. A1 Krause Sept 30. The afternoon was spent in playing five hundred and at five o'clock the three losers were escorted to the McHenry House where a sumptuous six course chicken dinner was served The Universalist church will hold regular services beginning Sunday, Oct 5, 1924. Sunday school at ten and church serviced at eleven. The school orchestra is beginning work on several new pieces Among them are Washington Post, Stars and Stripes Forever, National Emblem and Birthday Rose Overture. So far the orchestra has twenty-one members. A ball game played at the McHenry Park between the local boys and the Algonquin Indians ended with a score of 9 to 7 in favor of McHenry. The McHenry players on the team are Kosier, Gross, Kern, Bailey, Walczak, Rogers, Repas, Kingsley and Davidson. Miss Elizabeth K. Miller who for sometime past has been employed by the Illinois Bell Telephone company in Chicago was forced to give up her position in that city on account of ill health and is now at her home here. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Oct. 4, 1934) A celebration will take place at the Empire theatre and will continue through the week which will be known as "Anniversary Week" and for which great preparations have been made by the new manager, R.J. Miller Oct 7 marks the date just a year ago when the theatre was reopened by E W Johnson About thirty local Boy Scouts attended the Northwestern- Marquette football game at Evanston Saturday Those who drove cars were Dr G W. Hess. C H Duker, Jos Schmitt. Harry Townsend, Ray Hughes and C.J. Reihansperger Mrs. Arthur A Friestedt, 46 years old, died at her home at Pistakee Bay Saturday noon. She had been troubled with asthma for many years and it is thought that death was caused by complications from this ailment. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Krause and daughter, Marion, returned last week from a most interesting trip through the west in which they visited relatives, traveled through the Black Hills and saw the beauties of Yellowstone Park The annual Rock River conference of the Methodist Episcopal church is being held at Sycamore this week. Rev. L.H. Brattain, pastor of the local M.E. church will attend. Dr. A G. Chamberlin and Mrs. Alby Krug have been appointed lay delegates to the conference. H Walter Anderson will be associated in the business with his brother-in-law Mr and Mrs Lloyd Harland and Mrs Martha Fouts of Toulon. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Oct. 8, 1964) Harry P Stinespring, Jr., was elected chairman of the newly formed citizens advisory council for the McHenry elementary school district at the group's first report meeting held Sept. 30 One of the biggest cattle auction sales ever held in this area took place Saturday at the Northern Pump farm south of Richmond with gross proceeds totalling $217,000. The Woman's auxiliary to McHenry hospital presented a $5,000 check to Anthony C o r c o r a n h o s p i t a l a d m i n i s t r a t o r . T h e presentation was made at the annual luncheon meeting of the auxiliary Oct. 7. A daughter was born Sept. 30 to Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Doherty. St. Patrick's Catholic church in McHenry was the setting for a beautiful wedding Oct. 3, when Miss June Marie Radloff became the bride of Mr. Norbert A. Adams. Mr. Smith was a barber, a trade he followed for forty-seven years. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Krause received word that their little daughter, Barbara Ann, was a prize winner in the Sears National Baby contest which has been in progress at the World's fair this year. The little girl will be three years old on Oct. 17. The picture which was required in the contest was taken at Worwick studio in McHenry. A beautiful hand painted enlargement of the picture in an appropriate frame was received with a blue ribbon bearing the words "Sears National Baby Contest prize winner of 1934. In order to take advantage of the gas tax money coming to the city, resolutions were passed making John street an arterial highway, starting at Route U.S. 12 and running in an easterly direction through the golf course and subdivision to the eastern city limits The marriage of Miss Margaret Trent and Mr. Virgil Mullinax of Elgin took place Monday morning Sept. 24 at Geneva. The Rev. Carl A. Glad, pastor of the Geneva Lutheran church performed the ceremony. Miss Frances Micels went to Chicago this week where she will work in the twelve room home of Judge Feinberg on Lake Shore drive. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Oct. 13, 1949) Dorothy Schaefer, Marilyn Harrison, Clara Noonan, Kate Worts, and Alpha Pedersen attended the Ice Follies of 1950 and also enjoyed smorgasbord at the Kungsholm restaurant in Chicago. One of the most beautiful weddings of the season was solemnfttfL Oct. 8 in the Immanuel Lutheran church in Crystal Lake when Miss Helen Sabatke of Cary became the bride of Mr. Robert Kamholz of McHenry. Rev. Carl A. Lobitz of McHenry officiated The George Kauss family has moved from the Wonder Lake area to the Bohr place on Broad street which they recently purchased. Mrs. Walter Anderson underwent an appendectomy at the Woodstock hospital last Thursday. John Stoffel, 84, leading McHenry businessman for a half century, a civic worker for many years and at one time assistant postmaster in West McHenry, died at his home on Third street, Oct. 11. He had been in failing health for the past year Mr. and Mrs. John J. Vycital will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Oct. 19. Mr and Mrs. Vycital have been residents of McHenry for the past forty-three years and in that span of time have built up a successful hardware business Rev.
