The first indication of this vein was discovered approximately 7 miles south of McHenry and V2 mile west of the Crystal Lake blacktop. It took exactly 26 years of research and the last 5 years were devoted to sophisticated theories' which of course led to trials and error. Invocation Given By Guest Pastor At Smorgasbord The annual fall smorgasbord on Monday, Sept. 23, was very well attended by members of the McHenry Senior Citizens Club. The guest pastor was Rev. Ruth Wegner of the Ringwood Methodist Church, who gave the invocation, -- after which everyone enjoyed the most delicious meal. President Kenneth Bowsher called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m., with the Pledge of Allegiance, and welcomed the members and guests who had been unable to attend the dinner but who had come for the meeting. Among the reports, George Binder, reminded the members that the bus trip to the Chicago Loop would be on the first Wednesday in October -- due to the other bus trip to the Oscar Mayer Plant in Madison, Wis., scheduled for the second Wednesday John Doerr talked regarding the various trips already scheduled, and asked for suggestions for other trips -- such as going to a theater play early in 1975, the Ice Follies, Christmas Shopping trip, etc. - all of which received enthusiastic response. Reservations must be made promptly for all activities -- as only so many can be accommodated on the trips. Frank Giel reported the bowling is gomg real well -- and mentioned he would like to see some of the new members become active in the bowling. Mrs. Dolly Mazzarella, leader of the "Kitchen Band", gave a resume of the band's activities during this season, and proudly displayed the much awaited blue ribbon awarded by the Illinois State Fair as first place winners in the Kitchen Band Competition at the State Fair in Springfield on Aug. 16. The letter from the fair complimented the Kitchen Band and thanked them for attending the fair and competing, and also stated they hoped the Band would return next year again. The program for the evening was the "Joyful Noises" under the direction of Edwin Wittrock, assisted by Mrs. Elouise Leighty, accompanist, and Mrs. Edwin Wittrock. The "Joyful Noises" gave a very delightful program, and it was a joy to see these "little people" singing and performing for the "oldsters". It is hoped they will sing for the Club again sometime. At the completion of the program the children were treated to cookies and pop, and each was given a little cup of candy. The executive committee was reminded that the time of their meeting on Oct. 7 will be 3:45 p.m. (instead of 3 p.m.) so as not to conflict with the dismissal of the children at Landmark School and the loading of the busses. The next meeting of the club will be on Monday evening, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at East Campus cafeteria. The program will be given by the State Champion McHenry Senior Citizens Club "Kitchen Band" -- a program no one will want to miss! The band is anxious to play for their own club members to show -NOTICE- OUE TO THE DEATH OF DR. JOHN T. GRAY OPTOMETRIST 1260 N. Kitchen Band Reviews Year Of Successes It has been a most eventful and busy season for the McHenry Senior Citizens Club "Kitchen Band" which is drawing to a close, -- as they will be giving their last program of this season on Monday evening, Oct. 14, at East Campus Cafeteria at 7:30 p.m. for the McHenry Senior Citizens Club. One of the highlights of the year was their participation in the "Kitchen • Band" competition at the Illinois State Fair at Springfield, on Aug. 16, when they were awarded first place They have just recently received their "blue ribbon" and this along with the plaque ~ will hold very special places in the Kitchen Band memorabilia. Another highlight was when they played at the Walworth County Fair at Elkhorn, Wis., on Aug. 29. Governor Lucey complimented the Kitchen Band and thanked them for appearing and giving a program.
