Butler, 136 Shepherd Hill Drive, McHenry, on Thursday, . Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m. Anyone interested is welcome to join us in making our plans for the coming year. NEW PEOPLE IN TOWN Mrs. Elmira Simone is a new resident in Ringwood. She has come here from Wonder Lake and is living in one of the apartments that used to be known as the Muzzy building. Welcome to Ringwood, Mrs. Simone. WANTED Little witches and goblins are wanted in the Ringwood community to meet at the Ringwood church on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. to go trick or treating for UNICEF. Costumes are in order for more fun for the children, but mothers be sure that they can see through their masks. The children will be collec ting from 2 to 4 o'clock. They will then return to the church for games and light refresh ments. The party will be over at 5 o'clock so the children may then return home after a rewarding afternoon and party. McLAKE WOOD 4-H CLUB MEETING The first meeting of the year i for the McLake Wood 4-H Club, Oct. 13, was called to order by our new president; Ben Jacobs, Jr. Minutes of the last meeting were read and visitors recognized. Visitors were Bob Baker and Alan Zinke. Old business was discussed and the new business was brought up. Our meetings are being moved from Sundays at 7:30 p.m. to the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. Talks were given by David Byron on beer can collecting and Danielle Byron on speech making. The meeting was adjourned and refreshments served. Reporter: Lee Walkington > REUNION The annual Thomas family reunion met again this last weekend at Bettendorf, Iowa, with Walt and Doris Low, Patti Miller, Lee and Scott attending from here. Pam and Dan Kehoe also attended from Elkhorn, Wis., and Sue and Ed Erwin and children, Mabel Thomas and the Femstrom clan from McHenry. Linda and Bill Billikas and little Nicky were also there from Dubuque, Iowa. There were almost 75 people there from the Southern part of Iowa and the Chicago area, all Thomases or offsprings of the Thomases. What fun, 'cause some of these folks we wouldn't get to see for several years at a time if it wasn't for this reunion. Plus it helps cousins to know cousins that would only be names otherwise. GADABOUTS The Art Bakers traveled to Strawberry Point, Iowa, this past weekend to visit the grandmothers. Sure is nice when these kids have long weekends so that the parents can take off and be gone for an extra day. Bob Baker stayed behind with Lee Walkington for the weekend and I guess those two boys had a ball too. Althea Walkington has spent the last two weekends with her two granddaughters, Jolie and Karen Walkington, at Addison, and of course she helped daughter - in - law, Jan, out after her bout in the hospital. Roger and Bonny Petska and boys spent the long weekend visiting with the Kenneth Petska family, formerly of Ringwood, who now live in Chippawa Falls, Wise. They also ventured over to Holcomb to visit more relatives and friends. HOME AGAIN Home again is the phrase that our own Aunt Nellie Hepburn said last Friday as she returned home from the hospital. But not to say that she was alone. Her sister and brother - in - law, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Soddy, of Kenosha, spent the weekend, daughter, Marion Grosdider of Azusa, Calif., and a two day visit with grandson, Bobby Grebbs, also of California. Sunday John and Lorraine Blackmon of Antioch, and Lois Blackmon of Rich mond stopped by as did Mrs. Mike Freund, Mfs. Hiller of McHenry, Gladys Ainger of Hebron, the Johnsons of Waukegan, Mr. and Mrs. Ogdon of Park Ridge, Art Lau and Mrs. Mary Butler of McHenry. Also Miss Ruth Wegner stopped in to say hello. Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brennan and Mrs. Lil Visconti paid their last respects to Mrs. Barbara Brennan's mother in Oak Lawn. SUCCESSFUL RUMMAGE SALE The ladies of the Ringwood United Methodist church reported that all the help and support given their recent rummage sale last weekend made it a success. A project like this requires a lot of workers, donators, and buyers. We hope everyone will mark Saturday, Nov. 9, on their calendar as this is the date of our bazaar and dinner at the church. There will be more information on this later. HERE AND THERE Art and Katy Christopher with son, David, motored to northern Wisconsin this last weekend. The scenery was not as pretty as a couple of weeks ago but they had a good visit with Art's folks and on Sunday, his sister and family, the Leonard Berths of Green Bay, joined the group. Naturally, they stopped off at Appleton to visit their daughter and son - in - law, Diane and Gary Linstad. One of our neighbors has moved out to Spring Valley, recently. Sorry to see your move. Oh almost forgot, the gal who moved is Mrs. Tom An dreas. BIRTHDAYS Oct. 22 finds Marion Kane celebrating her birthday, and Ernie Malsch, Dirk Aissen and Brian J. Etten will celebrate on Oct. 23. And a happy birthday to Geoffry Sonnemaker on Oct. 25 way over there in England. On Oct. 22 Inga and Sig Jacobson will be celebrating their many years of wedded bliss. We wish you many more to come.' CONDOLENCE We wish to extend our deep sympathy to the family of the late Ben Tonyan. Ben was a well known neighbor and friend to many of us in the com munity. The members of the 180th Preventative Medicine Detachment of the Army Reserves were here once again to collect samples from various areas in McCullom Lake to detect groupings of snails. As you might remem ber, the snails provide breeding ground for the parasite that is believed to cause "swimmers itch" each year. The reservists are hopeful that frequent samplings will enable them to suggest an efficient method of treatment of the Lake and that this treatment will prevent the recurrence of "swimmers itch" when the swimming season returns, rather than have to wait until the problem is cleared after the season opens. MINNESOTA VACATION Bill and Pearl Koester recently returned from a fishing trip that took them to Cass Lake, Minn., for two weeks. Heard that the fish were really biting the first week and Bill and Pearl were enjoying their relaxation and leisure spent at the lake. However, the morning that began their second week at Cass Lake was a surprise to the both of them as it had snowed during the night. The fish weren't too eager to come up for a bite and the fishermen weren't too happy to see the early-in-the season white blanket. But I did hear OOOPS We did it again I was in formed. We forgot that Pam Chambers was also in the wedding of her cousin, Noreen Bauer Schmitt. Sooo hope that you will forgive us. Urge Revenue Sharing For School Support State Rep. Donald E. Deuster (R. Sylvan Lake) is recom mending that Federal Revenue Sharing monies received by local Illinois units of govern ment be used for the support of schools and education. In testimony delivered to the Committee on Elementary and Secondary Education at Waukegan, Deuster explained that a restriction in the Federal Revenue Sharing act prohibits any local governments from supporting schools. Deuster said: "Not one penny of the $209 million in Federal Revenue Sharing funds received by local units of government in Illinois can be spent to support our schools or education." Deuster pointed out thtft the Congressional prohibition against using Federal Revenue Sharing for education was adopted because it was ex pected that "Special Revenue Sharing for Education" would come later. "It has never come and seems to be dead. Thus, we must urge Congress to eliminate that prohibition so that this discrimination against education is ended!)" Bill and Pearl had a fun vacation! WEDDING BELLS ! Saturday, Oct. 5, was a very special day for a family in our area. Jeff Janke exchanged wedding vows with Rose Hulsey, of Lakemoor. While their excited families and friends watched the lovely ceremony held at the Freewill Baptist Church of Island Lake, the young couple beamed with happiness. Jeff's proud parents are Mr. and Mrs. William J. Janke. Jeff's sister, Lorresa, was especially excited as she in troduced her friend to her brother, Jeff, and they asked, Lorresa, to be maid of honor. It was indeed a happy day for the Janke family and our congratulations to the newlyweds, Jeff and Rose Janke! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Belated birthday wishes are extended to LaVerne Hagemann. LeVerne and her children were guests at her sister's home for a fun family celebration. Jerry and Elaine's Worth were happy Elaine's sister and her children, Scott, Matthew and Becky, were able to spend the day from Aurora along with the gals parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Nelson of McHenry. A fun day was had by all the guests and everyone enjoyed the delicious dinner and bir thday celebration at the Worth home. Little Stephanie and Jennifer had fun playing with their cousins and wishing their aunt LaVerne a happy bir thday, also!
