Here and There In Business... &*£&< ISt 0 Waddell To Fight For Tax Flood Legislation Rep. R. Bruce Waddell (R- 33rd-Dundee) has blasted Governor Walker's veto of Fox river flood relief legislation and pledged a vigorous fight to override the veto of House Bill 2428 in the Nov . 20 override session. Waddell was sponsor of the $400,000 appropriation bill in the House. He reported that the Senate sponsor, Sen. Jack Schaffer (R-33rd-Cary), will push for override in the Senate after his motion carries the House. "1 filed the motion last week," Waddell continued, "knowing full well that keeping people out of the icy waters this winter and next spring and for the foreseeable future is far more important than the relatively small amount of money involved." "To have this measure vetoed on the Governor's premise of studying and restudying the situation is nothing short of asinine," continued Waddell. "Those of us that live along the Fox and the Chain of Lakes know only too well that this situatiori has been studied and restudied many times at great expense to the taxpayers of Illinois. It's time the studies were put to use: To have little or no action in either effort or dollars where it concerns this valuable resource in political boon doggling in its worst form and this we have put up with for years." PAGE 1| - PLAINDEALER-WEDNESDAY. NOVEMBER M. liM Comment On Applicants For Judge To Nov. 22 New F8 building under construction wUl be the headquarters office for McHenry FS. It is located near the Farm Bureau building and the warehouse at Woodstock. (Don Peasley Staff Photography) Construct New Building For FS Headquarters McHenry FS is constructing a new building to house the office of the company and the office for the Woodstock plant manager. The board of directors made the decision to build in August, said Robert Gardner, president. Since 1962 the office has been i|» space rented in the Farm Bureau buidling. When this office was constructed in 1962 sales were $1,500,000. Since then sales have increased 403 percent. In 1962 there were five people in the office; now there are nine. This increase has put a strain on the office, and more rooms are needed. Rather than for the Farm Bureau to remodel and expand the present area, the more prac tical approach seemed to be to construct new facilities. The new office is nearer the present warehouse facilities. This will improve efficiency, allow one-stop service for members and enable operations and service to improve. The new building will be gray brick veneer. The main floor will house the plant manager's office, employee's lounge for eating lunch, office manager, sales manager and general manager, and board of directors' room. A fireproof room for records is included in the plan. The basement area will house a record storage area and meeting room. North of the office, room has been provided for expansion in the future. Construction was started Sept. 19 and is well along at the present time. Target date for completion is February, 1975. "Crawling Specks" Prove Nuisance To Homemakers Homeowners have been noticing recently a tiny dark red or almost black speck crawling around on window sills, baseboards, doors and walls. Although usually referred to as "bugs", these specks are clover mites, says George Young, University of Illinois Extension adviser in McHenry county. Since the clover mite feeds only on grass, clover and weeds and not on material InSlde the home or on human beings, these arachnida are strictly nuisance creatures. Clover mites found in the home may cause spotting and a great deal of frustration for the housewife, says Young. Most of the clover mite population spends the summer in the egg stage. These eggs hatch during moderate fall weather and the larvae begins its invasion of homes as a random wandering between molts or perhaps in search of food, says Young. Clover mites often over winter under tree bark but will also overwinter on the con crete, brick, and stone outside of buildings or in cracks and crevices in walls. On warm fall and winter days they may become active and again in vade the house. Infestations inside the home can be cleaned up with a vacuum cleaner, says Young. But be sure to discard or empty the bag because the mites will eventually find their way out of the vacuum cleaner. Young recommends spraying infested areas such as window sills and baseboards with a pyretrhin-containing aerosol bomb, holding the nozzle about six inches from the surface being treated. These measures are only temporary and will have to be repeated, says Young. However, this is about all that SERVICE NEWS Navy Hospitalman Recruit Tammy M. Haskett, daughter of Mrs. Doris M. Haskett of Route 2, McHenry, graduated from recruit training for women at the Naval Training center, Orlando, Fla. She is scheduled to report to Hospital Corps school, San Diego. The training included in struction in seamanship, military regulations, fire fighting, close order drill, first aid and Navy history. can be done at this time of the year. Any chemicals applied outside the home would have little effect because of cold temperatures. When the weather warms up in the spring there are certain preventative measures that can be done to stop movement of clover mites into the home. One alternative is to simply remove grass and weeds next to the foundation, leaving a strip of bare soil at least 18 inches wide. This strip can be replanted to such flowers as zinnia, marigold, chrysan themum, rose or salvia which do not attract clover mites. Another alternative is to apply a treatment of chloropropylate or dicofol (Kelthane) to the foundation and walls up to the windows and to the lawn extending out from the house. Tfie ia\Wri area can be dusted with the dust form of dicofol. Chloro propylate 25.2 percent emulsifiable concentrate (Acaralate) spray can be applied at the rate of one teaspoon per gallon of water or with dicofol 18.5 percent emulsifiable concentrate at the rate of 1M> teaspoons of dicofol per gallon of water. ^American Viewpoints a proper use of those means1'which the God of na ture has placed in our power ...
