American Lesion Auxiliary News UNIT NO. 491 By Pearl Cooper President, Mrs. Roy (Lauretta) Homo, opened the January meeting after the advancement of the flags, the invocation, the singing of the "Star Spangled Banner" and the Pledge of Allegiance, with twenty-one members present. The charter was draped for departed members, Lee Bassi, Helen Low and Lois Mc- Cormack, by President Lauretta Homo and Midge Scharf, in the absence of Chaplain Reba Owen. The 'Care' box for new schools in West Java, In­ donesia, was passed and Foreign Relations Chairman Ruth Mrachek, announced that she would enter a scrapbook in the Foreign Relations depart­ ment competition. Mrs. Mrachek introduced the A.F.S. student from Japan, Masatoski Wada, and his A.F.S. mother, Shirley Toole, Masatoski showed slides of his native land, gave a very interesting talk and answered many questions. Grace Latimer, Children and Youth chairman, announced that twelve families with fifty- six children received Christ­ mas baskets and gift cer­ tificates. It was noted that the Kiwanis, Lions and numerous cash donations were made toward this project. The McHenry American Legion Rifle squad donated to the Christmas baskets in lieu of having the annual Christmas party. Membership Chairman Doris Henken announced that the annual membership dinner will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, at 6:30 p.m., and all paid up members of the auxiliary are invited to attend. Members are being asked to call for reser­ vations if they plan to attend. The telephone number to call will be in the next auxiliary bulletin. Husbands and guests are invited after 9 p.m. for dancing. The McHenry County Council president, her secretary, the 11th district president, her secretary and their husbands will be special guests at this dinner. Mrs . Henken announced that 339 members have paid their dues and all members who have not paid are asked to please pay them by the night of the membership dinner. Liaison Chairman Midge Scharf introduced the two new transfers to the McHenry unit, Barbara Schultz and Dorothy Michels. Eleanore Miller and Mary Freund were winners of the special prizes. Lydja Fenner was not present to receive the attendance award. Donations were made to the Heart fund and the Salvation Army. Inspirational • Films Sunday At City Church "So Long, Joey", a Gospel Films presentation, will have two showings Sunday, Feb. 2, at the Alliance Bible church of the Christian and Missionary" Alliance, 3813 W. John street, McHenry. The first showing will be at 7 p.m. and there will be another at 8:15. "So Long Joey" tells the amazing true story of Dave Boyer, a singer who vowed to make it big. He left home, changed his name, made it big and then drank heavily, popped pills and separated from his wife and Child. He was ready to commit suicide. In the film, singer Dave Boyer, his wife, June, and Dave's mother share the miraculous way in which God transformed this confused entertainer. The musical, background for his excellent singing was recorded by musicians from the London Symphony orchestra with Ronn' Huff conducting.
