On The Sidelines Witti Dick Rabbitt Kfcn Ludwig, Warrior basketball coach, has been given jn^ quite an honor. Ken has been selected by the Illinois ^ Basketball Coaches association along with the Chicago Tribune to be one of 17 coaches in Class AA to select an All , State Team. The Tribune in cooperation with the Coaches Association will select an annual all state team to be honored at a dinner along with their parents at Normal Illinois on April 26. Each boy selected will be enshrined in the Coaches Hall of Fime, and this is the first time coaches throughout the state have gathered to honor, their own players. 3,r Each coach represents one of the 17 districts throughout ^ the state. He will nominate one player to receive an All ^Star award. This trophy will be mailed to the school. In .addition an all Chicagoland team will be selected, and will r be distinct from the Hall of Fame team. Congratulations are in order to Coach Ludwig for this j£vfine honor received from his fellow coaches in the state. (P^ AWord has been received that a group of Monmouth college students are using a computer to rate the top v teams in Class AA. According to the latest poll, our' McHenry Warriors are rated 20th. rtThe Zee Bees of Zion are ranked 8th, Peoria Central winner over the Warriors at Kankakee are 9th, and Antioch is 19th. East Leyden is ranked number one, as they have been in the coaches and writers poll all season. fairings for the Belvidere regional are out and our Warriors were rated the top team. They will play Honnegah of Rocklon in the first game on March 4. The following night the host school, Belvidere, tangles with the Blue Streaks of Woodstock. Tonight is Orange Night at West campus* The Warhawks of North Chicago will be in town to try and stop t|i our rampaging Warriors. School officials as well as the Pep Club are hoping for a large turnout for tonight's game. Everyone is requested to jjjjj wear something Orange. It was way back in 1970 when the gym was last filled for ft a basketball game. Do you remember .the Zion game? When there was standing room only in the gym? If you were there you'll never forget it. Mike Weingart with his long arching shots going in the bucket. Bruce Harbecke with his turn around pivot shot. The clutch free throws by Mike Freund and Mike Morenz, and the all around play that night of Gary Fairchild. Jimmy Hurckes on a steal going in for a layup, and Jim Heard coming off the bench for two clutch baskets. The roar of the crowd that night could be heard all the way back to Zion. Let's do * i it again tonight, and fill the old gym to capacity. Here is | i the box score of that great game. Going without the services of Vance Roth, and having two swimmers disqualified in the 200 In dividual Medley, the Warriors took it on the chin. Leading 80 to 78 going into the filial event the 400 yd. Free Style Relay, the absence of Roth hurt the Warriors as they lost not only the relay, but the meet as well.
