We have been informed by our local real estate dealers, Ben Stilling and son, that a man from St. Paul, Minn., is trying to purchase the property known as the Bishop estate at Mc- Cullom Lake, with one or two adjoining farms. This deal has been pending for some time and should it mature there will be some property owners having lake frontage, but very little water. The Bishop estate in­ cluded the greater of the lake proper and will no longer be used by the public. The garages on the farms of John S. and Hubert Freund who reside on the cement road east of this city were entered one night last week. At the former place a battery and other ac­ cessories were taken from a Buick touring car while at the Hubert Freund farm a wheel was stolen from the family's car. Aicher and Hazel and Jane Heimer spent Sunday as guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bickler in Chicago. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO The most severe storm of the 1949-50 winter thus far made its appearance in the early hours of Monday morning. It left not only a substantial blanket of snow over the countryside but continued to whirl it in all directions most of the day, piling high drifts which made many roads all but impassable. In the afternoon it changed to rain and late in the afternoon to sleet which transformed tree branches and wires into winter wonderland. Wilbert Hecht, 5 3years old, of McCullom Lake, is confined to the Woodstock hospital this week having suffered a frac­ tured vertebra and a con­ cussion in an auto accident near McCullom Lake. Eugene Unti, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Unti has been initiated by Psi Omega professional dental fraternity at the University of Illinois. He is a first year student in the college of dentistry. Dr. Henry Freund of McHenry was in Chicago Feb. 12 arid 13a taking part in the forty-second annualconvention of the Illinois Optometric association at the Morrison hotel. By a vote of 224 in favor and 216 against, the issue of whether or not Island Lake, southeast of McHenry would become incorporated was settled last Saturday. Voting took place at two polling places one in McHenry county and the other in Lake county. Miss Eileen Fitzgerald of Oak Park spent the weekend and Monday at her home here. Humphreys of Lakeland Park was one of the members of the U.S. Coast Guard stationed at Fire Island, New York, who helped in the search for victims of the air­ plane disaster which occurred off Jones Beach.
