From left, front, are Donald J. Cooney, second vice-president; Richard Zieman, new president; and Kenneth Schuh, first vice-president; in back, Wayne L. Brown, treasurer, and William Caldwell, Jr., secretary. (DON PEASLEY PHOTOGRAPHY) "Look To Future Needs" Hospital Members Told Good news concerning payment on the money borrowed to construct a major addition in 1970, with advice to "look into the future" con cerning needs, marked the annual meeting of the Memorial Hospital for McHenry County association last week. Ludwig Kulovsek. retiring treasurer for the association, said $1,250,000 was borrowed in 1970 with the undemanding $82,000 a year would be paid and with a further un derstanding that $625,000 would be paid toward the principal May 1, 1980. Good administrative ex perience has enabled the hospital board to make ad vance payments so that through pre-payment twice since 1970, the May 1, 1980, oblication has been reduced to $313,000. "This is a major achievement, made possible by stringent financial practices and strict cost control," asserted Kulovsek. Increased government regulations, as well as growing complexities in the financial aspects of this health care organization, has prompted the board to hire a chief financial officer. He will supervise the finances and assist the treasurer. The treasurer is a volunteer, a member of the Association subsequently elected to the board. In separate talks, both Bert Hanson, executive director, and Dr. William Larsen, retiring chief of the medical staff, cautioned that they must not relax their vigilance in striving for outstanding health care services. Earlier, Jack Byers, retiring as president, had praised the hospital and medical staffs for their "pursuit of excellence" in behalf of the people served by the 61-year-old Wood stock based hospital. Dr. Larsen reviewed new services and expansion planned in the intensive care unit and added: "We will have to get added long-term planning to keep ahead of the inevitable demand placed on our hospital." Hanson, who is completing nineteen years as the ad ministrative head of Memorial hospital, noted several major positive developments the past year, including the addition of a staff anesthesiologist, ex pansion in the physical therapy department services with a new physical therapist, ex pansion of emergency room coverage by physicians, and purchase of new equipment with the assistance of finances provided by the Woman's auxiliary. But he warned that the association, the board, and the administrative staff must not get so caught up in day-to-day responsibilities. "We must spend time for future plan ning," he advised. "We must keep top medical care available even though there are prospects of construction in the area. We have our own distinct responsibilities to a large portion of the population," he summarized. Mrs. Robert Emery, Woman's auxiliary president, presented Hanson with a $12,879 check, an Auxiliary gift to purchase equipment. Several major pieces of equipment have been ordered in con sultation with the medical staff. She said the auxiliary has sixteen nursing aspirants at tending nurses' training with the help of an Auxiliary scholarship. Byers sum marized the reaction of many when he declard: "The support of the auxiliary is astounding." Since 1946, the Auxiliary's first year, its members have con tributed $365,000 in behalf of patients. Byers called attention to the fact that, in addition, auxiliary members contributed a combined 53,051 hours as volunteers, and this does not include time involved in Holiday Hospitality day. That event is the auxiliary's major Legal Notice Sealed bids will be received by the City Council of the City of McHenry at the office of city clerk, 1111 N.
