Members of the McHenry group meet the second Wed­ nesday of every month to give each other advice and en­ couragement in the field of mothering. Along with the personal support of other mothers, the group also makes a lending library and league literature available. The league says pregnant women will find it most helpful to attend this meeting before the baby arrives. Nursing babies are always welcome. U(a%£,n i <Shofi Annual Meeting-Luncheon For Church Women United Wonder Lake Couple < Wed Christ the King Catholic church, Wonder Lake, was the setting for the Feb. 1 wedding of Mary Lee Wight, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Sullivan of 3117 E. Lake Shore drive, Wonder Lake, and Richard W. Berndt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Novak of 4801 E. Lake Shore drive, Wonder Lake. They repeated their vows before the Rev. Thomas Dempsey and Pastor Thomas Johnson, friends of the bridal couple. The church was decorated with yellow, white and blue flowers for the 3 o'clock af­ ternoon services. The bride wore a white polyester knit gown featuring a fitted bodice, lantern sleeves and a chapel length train. The semi-squared neckline was trimmed with cameo lace beaded with blue ribbon. Matching lace bordered the hemline and train. Her three- tiered illusion veil was attached to a Juliet headpiece enhanced with seed pearls and matching lace. She carried a cascading bouquet of white tea roses and ivy. The bride's gown and veil were designed and made by her mother. Miss Nancy Cristy, the bride's aunt, attended her as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Debbie Johnson, the bride's cousin, and Debbie and Bonita Berndt, sisters of the groom. Janet Sullivan, the bride's sister, served as junior bridesmaid. The attendants wore sky blue, polyester knit, floor length gowns styled with long full sleeves with ruffled cuffs, meeting may contact Mrs. Richard (Marcia) McGowan or Mrs. Robert (Julie) Jessup. AFS Student Speaks Before Garden Club The January meeting of the McHenry Garden club was held at the home of Mrs. Lester Smith, with Matatoshi Wada, the American Field Service student from Japan, as guest speaker. He showed slides of the temples, shrines and large cities of his country and gave an excellent description of the beliefs of his country. A tasty dessert luncheon was served. A business meeting followed the program, with plans for future events. " McHenry women will b§ installed when Church Women United of Lake Region holds it annual luncheon meeting Friday, Feb. 7 at Woodstock United Methodist church at 12 o'clock. All interested women are asked to bring a dish to share for the buffet table, and a friend with whom to share the day. Immediately following the Share ap-pfsh luncheon, President ^Patricia Seiling of Crystal Lake United Methodist church will call the annual meeting to order. The brief meeting will precede the special program for the day. Mrs. Eldon Hershberger, Northeastern area chairwoman for Church Women United in Illinois, will be guest speaker and assist .the women in setting goals for the future. With the reorganization (adoption of revised bylaws), the local unit of Church Women United will be operating differently than previous years. Mrs. Hershberger is active in local and state Church Women United, as well as in her local church and home community of Harvey. Her responsibilities include chairperson of Metro Gro group, which involves all Chicago metropolitan area units of Church Women United. She is a mother of three children and part-time receptionist at Orthopedic o center in Harvey. The new officers to be in­ stalled during the afternoon program are: president, Pat y Seiling, Crystal Lake; vice- president, Libby Podpora, McHenry; secretary, Ginny CoValt, McHenry; treasurer, Susan Wykel, Crystal Lake; a r e a - c h a i r w o m a n - Coordinator of Ecumenical Action; Peg Stinespring, Woodstock; coordinator of Ecumenical Development; Pauline Helbig, Crystal Lake; coordinator of Ecumenical Celebrations; Mae Stinespring, McHenry; Communications chairwoman, Marie Wykle, Crystal Lake; finance chair­ woman, Nellie Cina, McHenry; nominating chairwoman, Wyn Cain, McHenry; and area representative, Mary Bran- nock, McHenry. During the morning, the Executive committee and committee chairpersons will have a training session led by Barbara Hershberger and Marie Wykle, treasurer for Church Women United in Illinois. Child Care is provided. Mothers are asked to phone their area representatives to make reservations so that adequate personnel are provided. In McHenry, Mrs. Kennis (Mary Brannock) should be contacted. Church Women United is an ecumenical group opened to every interested woman who would like to share with others of like mind from other chur­ ches, in study, service, celebrations and fellowship. The meeting day for Church Women United in Lake region is the first Friday of each month (excluding summer months). In addition to the celebrations, Church Women United is actively involved in this area with the Meals on Wheels program which makes available for any who desire daily hot luncheons and evening lunch. The Clothes Closet operating in Woodstock, serves a great need for those with limited budgets, to pur­ chase good used clothing. The next celebration will be World Day of Prayef Friday, March 7, and the three services for the Lake Region will be held in Crystal Lake at St. Thomas Roman Catholic church; in McHenry at Faith Presbyterian and in Woodstock at First Baptist. fitted bodices with blue and white print bib inserts and standup collars edged with ruffles. Each wore a small band of flowers in her hair. They carried delicate bouquets of yellow carnations, white roses and blue cornflowers. Joe Novak, the groom's brother, served as best man. Groomsmen were Phil John­ son, Guy Filip and Roger Hansen. Brothers of the bride, Joe Sullivan and Richard Sullivan, served as junior groomsman and ringbearer, respectively. For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Sullivan wore a floor length knit gown featuring a yellow print bodice and sleeves with a solid color yellow skirt and a corsage of yellow tearoses. The groom's mother chose a medium blue velvet, floor length gown with a light blue and white lace bodice and a white tearose corsage. Immediately following the ceremony, a reception for 225 guests was held at the American Legion hall, McHenry. When they return from a honeymoon trip to Aspen, Colo., the young couple plan to make their home at 7604 North drive, Wonder Lake. The bride is a 1968 graduate of Marian Central Catholic high school and attended Alverno college, Milwaukee. She is a registered nurse at Memorial hospital, Woodstock. The groom graduated from MCHS in 1970 and served in the U.S. Army for three years. He serves as a professional fireman and is a member of the Wonder Lake Fire and Rescue department. Special guests at the wedding included Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sullivan of Wonder Lake, the bride's grandparents, and Mrs. Lillian Tanner, the groom's grandmother. Five Women Hospital Employees Are Honored Five women employees of McHenry hospital were honored Feb. 1 at the annual THEY WANT ANGELS! -- Mrs. Glen Anderson, left, and Mrs. Dean Cunat seek Early Bird Angels to help underwrite the March 24 Fashion show presented by the auxiliary to McHenry hospital. Early Angels will be guests at an afternoon tea in the James Althoff home, given by the Fashion show committee. Accepting donations now are Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Cunat, both of McHenry. McHenry and Edwin Rostad of Lindenhurst, announce the engagement of their daughter, Leora, to Joseph Foreman, son of Mrs. Arline Foreman of 1509 W. Pine street, McHenry. Frances Bunge, dinner cook; Gloria Cooper, R.N., maternity department nurse; Bernice Kreutzer, nurse technician Angle Stoddard, patient representative, and Henrietta Vycital, inhalation therapist, were awarded plaques of ap­ preciation for their ten-year service to the hospital. All were new employees at the time of the Palm Sunday tornado which hit Crystal Lake. Mrs. Bunge remembers making 250 sandwiches for the physicians, nurses, and rescue workers who brought in vic­ tims. Mrs. Stoddard, who was operating the switchboard when the Sheriff's police notified the hospital of the catastrophe, remembers trying to find empty beds for incoming patients. "We went around to all persons who had checked in for Monday surgery and asked them to pack up and go home, to free the beds for the tornado victims," Mrs. Stoddard says. Mrs. Bunge and Mrs. Vycital are from McHenry; Mrs. Kreutzer and Mrs. Stoddard are from Crystal Lake; and Mrs. Cooper is from Wauconda. "In a field which demands total dedication to patient service, we are fortunate to have personnel like these women," said LeRoy E. Olsen, president of the hospital's board of directors, in presenting the plaques. * * * * Never attempt to give ad­ vice and you will be sur­ prised how easy it is to mind your own business. LEONA ROSTAD ENGAGED -- The engagement of Leona Rostad to Thomas Fiedler was announced recently by her parents, Mrs. Celia Petersen of 1404 W. Sunset drive, McHenry, and Edwin Rostad of Lindenhurst. Her fiance is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Fiedler, Jr. of 1807 Indian Ridge, Sunnyside Estates. No definite date has been set for the wedding. SET ALUMNI REUNION -- Marian Central Catholic High School is sponsoring a reunion party for all graduates of the £ounty-wide school Friday, Feb. 14, at 9 p.m. Pictured above are Principal Tom Parsley and Dean of Students Lou Hartlleb, discussing plans for this annual affair, which attracted 350 former students and teachers last year. The reunion begins after a varsity basketball game that the Marian Hurricanes will play against West Suburban conference opponent, St. Francis (Wheaton). Mothers Of Twins Club Meets Feb. 11 The MOTC (Mothers of Twins Club) will hold its monthly meeting at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Woodstock street, Crystal Lake, Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. Julie Kinkaid will be guest speaker for the evening.
