Anderson last week indicated support for strengthening the federal role in education, according to McHenry School District 15 board of education member, Henry F. Nell, who joined nearly 300 other school board officials from forty-two states in Washington, D C. to discuss education legislation with their U.S. Senators and Represen tatives. A total of fourteen local Illinois school board members accompanied Nell to Washington. The school officials are members of the federal relations network of the National School Boards association, the nation-wide representative of school districts. Each network member represents local boards of education in his or her congressional district to inform members of Congress of the policies of the nation's schools. The network members visited the offices of their Senators and Representatives after two days of briefings by three Senators,' three Congressmen, and NSBA leaders. The agenda included discussions of pending federal legislation on collective bargaining by school employes, school district participation in the federal General Revenue Sharing program, vocational education, education of han dicapped children, school district representation on the Advisory Commission on In tergovernmental Relations (ACIR), and federal funding for schools.
