Coach Ludwig's moves seem to be working real well. We aren't forgetting that Ron Stine came in to help when he was needed. Ron is a big fellow who does a good job when called into action. You can't win with five men. Luckily Coach Ludwig has the fellows on the bench this year to call on when needed. The Warriors went to Woodstock Saturday night and had little trouble snowing the Streaks under. There were years when Woodstock was the big school in the country and every team dreamed of beating them. Bill Winkel brought his darling little daughter to see her first basketball game. She liked the cheerleaders and the Pom-Pom girls. That was the game as far as she was concerned. There is an old saying that money is the root of all evil. BOLGER'S DRUG STORE 1259 N. GREEN ST. The 29th Annual will be played in the Johnsburg Junior High gym March 2-9-16. McIIenry and Johnsburg Forester Courts are co- sponsors and plans are rolling along. This event always brings widespread interest and large crowds. Count your blessings when you wake up these cold mor nings and your house is warm. It isn't like the old days when you had to fire up the stoves. Makes us remember days down on the farm when we slept upstairs with no heat and had to roll out at 5 o'clock in the morning. A fellow was glad to get out to the cowbarn to get warm. That hustling Crystal Lake Tiger basketball team gave us fits before our Warriors could put it all together for a 65-55 victory there Friday night. Of course, there should never have been a doubt. Crystal Ball Rabbitt told Ed Datz our team would win by 10 points. Tom Stark was the man for the Warriors. His rugged play and scoring kept them in the game. Then Terry Reilly came off the bench at the right time to add points. When Terry eased the situation, Coach Ludwig put player Kenne Ludwig back in for ball control. Warriors Blast Streaks 74 to 42 By Dick Rabbitt The Fighting Warriors of Coach Ken Ludwig won a nonconference game Saturday night by defeating Woodstock 74 to 42 at Woodstock. It was their 17th win of the season against 4 losses. The game opened with neither team scoring in the first three minutes. It wasn't because of lack of effort, but neither team could get the ball in the hoop, until Stark's basket put the Warriors ahead. Going to his bench early Coach Ludwig inserted Tom Ludwig and Reilly into the game, and these two lads got the Warriors off and running and they led 13 to 6 at the two minute mark, and then the roof caved in as the Streaks roared back to take a 14 to 13 first period lead. That was it as far as the Streaks were concerned for the rest of the night. Joe Meyer's two free throws put the Warriors on top 15 to 14, and with balanced scoring the rest of the period the Warriors ran off to a 40 to 24 halftime lead. It was in the third period that the Warriors put the game on ice. Playing flawless basketball throughout the period the Warriors demonstrated to the fans present why they are a great team. Hitting on 9 of 11 from the floor, holding Woodstock to 8 shots and only two baskets the Warriors with precision passing, and position rebounding outscored the Streaks 18 to 4 during the period and led 58 to 28 going into the final stanza. With the reserves taking over and they, too, playing a great game, the Warriors easily tucked away win number 17, 74 to 42. For the second straight night the Warriors got off to a slow start, but again the defense helped, until they could get their offense rolling. Many Woodstock fans commented to me after the game about the play of the Warriors especially during the third period. It was probably the finest quarter of basketball play by any Warrior team anytime. If they could ever put four quarters of play like that, nobody and I mean nobody could touch our Warriors. And move fast. The Warriors got things going their way as they broke up the slow, deliberate play of the Tigers to capture a come-from-behind victory last Friday night. Above, the Warriors quickly make their Warriors Catch Fire Beat Tigers 65 - 55 By Dick Rabbitt The McHenry Warriors defeated a stubborn Crystal .Lake five here Friday night by the score of 65 to 55 for their 16th win of the season, and kept them one game behind league leading Zion Benton. After jumping off to a quick 4 to 0 lead the Warriors hit a cold spell, and the Tigers taking advantage of every break broke out to a 14 to 9 first quarter lead. The slow deliberate play of the Tigers seemed to have the Warriors off balance and they just couldn't seem to get un packed. That plus the fact that Mosolino, Tiger center, was controlling the boards on both ends of the floor. At the two minute mark of the period Kenne Ludwig's basket brought the score 28 to 21 f will be held on Wednesday, f Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at the McHenry firehouse. At this gathering we wish to bring together all of us who are interested in having a Softball league for our young ladies. For additional information call Mrs. Otto Larsen. Tigers. With Marty Zeller's layup, Kasprzyk's two free throws, and again Ludwig's basket, the Warriors narrowed the gap to a 30-27 halftime deficit. It was quite evident that the Warriors were not playing the ball they J were capable of during th0 first two periods. After some words of wisdom by Coach Ludwig during the in termission, the Warriors looked like the Warriors of old. With Tommy Stark taking command, the Warriors began to make their move. Koerber's three point play and Stark's two quick baskets brought the Warriors within one at the three minute mark. At 2:24 Stark's two free throws put the Warriors ahead for the first time since the early minutes of the game, and they never trailed thereafter. It was still anyone's game at the end of the period with McHenry leading 44 to 41. Now it was Reilly's turn to take charge. A layup for the bucket, and a steal 4 seconds later for another quick one, got the Warrior machine rolling and they ran and shot their way to a 21 to 12 fourth quarter bulge to win 65 to 55. It was the 8th North Subur ban win of the season for the Warriors and left them still one behind the ZeeBees who walloped Libertyville 68 to 47. Tom Stark looked like the Tom of old. His quick tur naround jump shots were finally finding the mark. He was a tower of strength on the boards, as the Warriors had difficulty with the Tiger rebounding. Again when the offense sputtered, the Big D took over, which is becoming a trademark of the Warriors. Steve Koerber hung on to second place in the conference scoring with 16 points. This weekend is another Conference doubleheader.
