PAGE 6 - PLAINDEALER-FR1DAY, MARCH 7, 1975 THE STRETCH by Razim (31) was not enough as Warrior Marty Zeller hooks a basket in this secoifd period action viewed from above the net. Zeller scored 14 points in the McHenry 94-37 win over the Hononegah Indians. Tonight the Warriors play Belvidere (they beat Woodstock 76-74 Wednesday night) for the regional title. A Warrior win would advanc# them to the Rockford sectional next week. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD EARL WALSH1 So I Hear Bombs away! The Warriors of McHenry High shook down the rafters from the sky Tuesday night in the Belvidere Regional to bury the hopeless and helpless Hononegah team from Rockton. This isn't to say that the big Rockton team didn't give it all they had. They simply did not have the horses to stop the whirling, sharp shooting Warriors. We thought the Belvidere .SPORTS EDITORj " . . . . A n d t e l l J E R R Y ' S he'll have to delay that tire guarantee he gave me" JERRY'S "66" AUTO REPAIR 4713 W. Kt. 1ZU Days 3.44-1278 Towing after 11pm gym had the poorest lighting system since kerosene lamps, but the Ludwig Lambasters must have seen the nets quite clearly. The big defenders closed off the lane under McHenry's basket early in the game, but Kenne Ludwig sank three of his patented side shots to draw them out. Then Kenne found himself on the bench with three fouls and the other fine guards hit some real swishers to pull away. Coach Ludwig again went to his bench early in the game and had the men to do the job. Opinion seems to be that Belvidere will be McHenry's opponent Friday night, but we are reminded that the Wood stock Blue Streaks may have something to say about that. George Worts filled two buses for the comfortable trip. Bob Stevens was our pilot and he took us right to the door in good style. The Blake boys, Bob and Don, sat across from us on the way home and were recalling McHenry County tournament days. Vale Adams was in front of us with one of our favorite persons (Marge). Vale played for Coach Gerald Reed in a county tournament in St. Mary's gym at Woodstock. He said it was in the year of 1937. (He can't be that old!) McHenry sent 32 bowlers to the Peterson Classics this week. Would you believe? Ed Buss rolled a 102 first game. Of course, in true Buss fashion, he bounced back with some 200 plus games to win a nice purse. Joe Etten, who took it all in the classics a few years ago, was awarded a nice plaque for his years of bowling and sponsoring teams. The younger Joe Etten was top man in the group and will get a sizeable reward. MAIN 385-0294 By Dick Rabbitt The McHenry high school "Fighting Warriors" showed why they were picked in the number one spot in the regional as they defeated Hononegah of Rockton 94 to 37 Tuesday at the Belvidere tourney. The Warriors wasted no time getting on the board as Kenne Ludwig popped in a fifteen footer at the 7:45 mark of the game. With the Indians playing a somewhat control style of game, and looking for the good shot, the Warriors were content to play their regular pressure defense. It paid off as Ludwig again hit from the corner, and seconds later made his third shot of the night to set the Warriors roaring away Kasprzyk hit two, and Zeller added another for a 14 to 3 lead. With Ludwig now on the bench with his third foul, Radar Reilly entered the fray and promptly sank a 20 footer to put the Warriors ahead 16 to 5 at the end of the first stanza. It was in the second period that the Warrior machine really got rolling. With the Indians still stuck in their 3-2 zone defense, the outside shooting of Reilly and Kasprzyk put the points on the board, and the local five went into the intermission with a 40 to 10 lead. It was evident that the In dians couldn't cope with the pressure type of defense that the Warriors displayed. Numerous turnovers gave the Warriors the advantage and they didn't let their teammate^ and fans down. The third period was more of the same, sharp passing, ball hawking, the fast break, and outside shooting all were a great factor as the Warriors continued to roll up the score and lead 65 to 21 going into the final period. It was in the third period that the play of the game occurred and left the fans spellbound. On beating the ground with clubs and uttering spine-chilling cries. Anthropologists call this a form of primitive self- expression. In America we call it golf. - Bits and Pieces a breakaway Kasprzyk broke with the ball for the basket, and without looking flipped a backhand over the head pass to Marty Zeller who never broke stride and went in for the lay up. Even the Hononegah fans stood and gave the Warriors a hand on that basket. In the final stanza the reserves got their chance, and they too continued the on slaught on the hapless Indian five. With Reilly, Joe Meyer who canned 4 buckets in this period, plus the fine play of Hertel and Lund, along with the big guy Ron Stine, and Tony Christy (only Warrior who failed to score) the Warriors had a happy time of it and ran the total to a whooping 94 points for the win. It was a great win for the Warriors. Coach Ken Ludwig's boys came to play, and even after they had the game in the bag, didn't let up. The Indians didn't put up much opposition, nevertheless the Warriors didn't take the game as a cakewalk. They looked simply great at times, but with the hapless Indians throwing the ball a number of times, and their inability to get the ball into the basket, there were a few times when I'm sure that the coaching staff was concerned. Tonight it will be a different story. Playing the winner of the Belvidere-Woodstock game for the championship will be another big game for our Warriors. If they can continue the type of play displayed since Christmas I'm sure we will be all heading for Rockford on Tuesday night. Let's go get 'em Warriors, ON TO ROCKFORD. Anyone who took pictures at the fishing derby, who would like sharing them with the club for their records, should contact Raycraft or Mrs. Harriet Hammer. The McCullom Lake Con servation club extends an in vitation for interested persons to come to their meetings, held on the third Thursday evening of each month at 8 p.m. The location of the meeting places is announced in the newspapers. A STEAL AND A SHOT - and Warrior Steve Kasprzyk leaps above the Hononegah Indian Tom Polaski for the basket. Steve scored 16 points in the McHenry win in the Regional game Tuesday night.
