PAGE 16 - PLAINDEALER-FR1DAY, MARCH 14, 1975 'tttod symbol, Legend has it that, long ago, the dogwood I came into bloom on Calvary and that, after- J™ wards, a cross was implanted into the flower itself, to remain for all time. You can see it if you look closely, rust brown against the white of each individual blossom. Many of us carry crosses, faint like the dogwood's emblem but with us, nevertheless. Somehow, in this Lenten season, we become particularly conscious of them and of our need for help--a certain kind of help, that can be found only through theHhjngs we learn in Church. The Church doesn't pretend to banish our cares and woes. But, its teachings realisti cally consider the experiences of life itself. No matter what our personal cross may be, we seem able to bear its burden with more strength. Lent is a wonderful time in which to begin making church-going a regular part of your life--if you haven't already. Rick, was with them as he was to sing in the wedding and Father Vic was along as he was marrying the kids. Men teachers may take one night each week for court ing purposes or two evenings a week if they go to church regularly . . .After school, the teacher must spend the time until supper reading the Bible and other good books . . .Women teachers who marry or engage in unseemly conduct will be discharged. . .Every teacher should lay aside from each month's pay a goodly sum, for 4iis benefit during his declining years so that he will not become a burden on society . . .Any teacher who smokes, uses liquor in any form, frequents pool halls, or gets shaved in a barber shop, will give good reason to suspect his worth, integrity and honesty . . . The teacher who performs his duties regularly and faith fully, and without fault for five years, will be given an increase of 25 cents a week in his pay, providing the Board of Education approves . . . (P.S. - There was no shortage of teachers! ) . . . George R. Justen Funeral Home, 3519 W. EimSt.-McHenry ALABAMA VISITORS Floyd and Edith Howton stopped in one day last week to let us know that they were in the area, and to tell us about the death of their daughter, Betty, in Romeoville, 111. They will be with Betty's family for a month or two and hopefully they will get back this way to visit a couple of days before going back to Alabama. SYMPATHY The community extends their sympathy to Floyd and Edith Howton on the death of their daughter, Betty, and to Betty's family. Also the community extends sympathy to Eunice Andreas in the death of her brother LaVearne Ebel of Crystal Lake. He was in a car accident last week and lost his life. "500" CARD PARTY The Ladies "500" card party met at the home of Arlene Pearson last week, Wednesday. A lot of visiting was done but evidently there was some card playing too 'cause we hear that Vivian Jackson of Richmond went home with high score and Flora Carr came home with low score. BIBLICAL TOUR The vivid Biblical Tour presented by Rev. Ruth Wegner's parents, the Helmuth Wegners, was enjoyed with supper by several of the (Ringwoodites) people last Sunday evening at the Greenwood church. The tour of Egypt and Greece presented by Mr. Wegner was given with such a vivid Biblical description and historical background that you really felt like you yourself were there enjoying it all. A very en joyable evening. BIRTHDAYS Gee, we seem to have quite a list of birthdays the next week so let's get busy with those cards so we don't miss anybody. His name is Cal Skinner, Jr. (R-Crystal Lake). He was present all 153 days the Illinois House was in session during 1973 and '74. Missing only one of the Senate's 160 sessions was Skinner's colleague, Senator Jack Schaffer (R-C,ary). No state Senator had a perfect attendance record. Neither of Skinner's district mates in the House had perfect attendance records either. Rep. R. Bruce Waddell (R- Dundee) recorded as having missed three sessions, while Rep. Tom Hanahan (D- McHenry) was absent six days. Loan Interest Rates For USDA Are Decreased Acting Secretary of Agriculture J. Phil Campbell has announced a decrease, effective April 1, interest rate on U.S. Department of Agriculture Price Support Commodity Loans and Storage facility and Drying Equipment loans. The decrease, from 9,375 to 6.125 per cent per annum, reflects a decrease to the Commodity Credit corporation in the cost of money that it borrows. The decreased rate of in terest will apply to outstanding loans, for which applications have been received on or after Oct. 1, 1974, and to new loans disbursed on and after April 1. The adjustment of the interest rate on outstanding loans is in accordance with the policy announced last Oct. 1. Folk Festival Planned To Aid Restoration Fund Several Woodstock high school students plan a Folk Festival, featuring many talented singers and in strumentalists, Friday, March 21, to help raise money for the Woodstock Community center restoration fund. The 8 p.m. program will be given in the Woodstock Opera House, Miss Diane Conway, one of the enthusiastic students who took part in an earlier Folk Festival, said this week. The first Folk Festival was given before a standing room only crowd, and was accepted with enthusiasm. Proceeds from the Folk Festival will be used in the Opera House rennovation program, and Miss Conway says it represents the first chance young people have to participate directly in this community-wide project. "The Opera House rennovation is everyone's project," she asserted, "and this per formance is one way in which the community can join in supporting this goal."
