One Senior Citizen is holding the attention of the staff at the newly opened county Senior Citizen assistance center at 56 North Williams Street, Crystal Lake. Mrs. Jenner, seated, is assisting Mrs. Elizabeth Teeter of Barrington while, standing, left to right, Virginia Kenney, Jeanne Dobbie, Madge Carlson and Margaret Began, volunteers and staff members, look on. Anyone interested in volunteering may do so by contacting the center by phone or by writing to the center. State Senator Jack Schaffer and Congressman Robert McClory are requesting the volunteer assistance of anyone interested in helping staff the newly created senior citizens assistance center in Crystal Lake. They have designated Mrs. Margaret Jenner as chairman of the volunteer committee to help staff the center. Mrs. Jenner, an active senior citizen herself, will coordinate the activities of the volunteer committee in manning the center. Volunteers will assist senior citizens in filling out state and Federal forms, solving Social ' Security and Medicare problems and in general helping untangle the bureaucratic red tape many senior citizens find themselves faced with. •The center is open from 9:30 in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon. Anyone interested in volunteering may do so by contacting the center by phone, 459-8185, or by writing the center, 56 North Williams street. Crystal Lake. Mrs. Jenner expressed the hope that enough interested citizens would volunteer to make it possible for a senior citizen volunteer to be at the headquarters morning and afternoons, five days a week. In addition to the volunteers, the center will also be staffed on a full-time basis by trained individuals who will be available to provide technical assistance and follow up both in Springfield and in Washington. A considerable number of people have already expressed interest in participating as a volunteer in the project and Senator Schaffer expressed his hope that a large enough number of people would became involved to allow them to expand the services and scope of the senior citizens assistance center. Crocheted Shrug Enter Exhibit In Garden Show Plans for the McHenry County college Ornamental Horticulture exhibit at the Chicago Flower and Garden show, April 5-13, are close to realization. This project has been in the works since last fall when a plan was drawn up in corporating allfour divisions of the Ornamental Horticulture department: Landscape, Floral Design, Greenhouse Management and Turf Management. The landscape design follows a 'naturalized' theme and features flowering trees and shrubs, evergreens, spring bulbs and a pool with a waterfall effect. All nursery stock procured from various area nurseries is now being forced into bloom under greenhouse conditions. Greenhouse Management classes have been propagating their own plants since January for use in a miniature greenhouse and planter boxes which are part of the exhibit. As in last year's show, the Floral Design classes will have scheduled demonstrations of their work throughout the entire week. A new addition to this year's exhibit will be scheduled demonstrations on plant propagation which will include plant division, stem and leaf cuttings, air layering, cane sections, grafting, runners and seed sowing. Through the courtesy of WGN-TV, Don Barrett, p r o g r a m c o o r d i n a . t o r , Agriculture department, and selected students from each division will appear on Orion S a m u e l s o n ' s t e l e v i s i o n program, "Top O' the Mor ning", to promote McHenry County college and the Chicago Flower and Garden show.
