Sp-- Offer Parent Training Classes Apri l 5-10 Beginning the first week in April, two classes in Parent Effectiveness Training (PET) will be held in Crystal Lake under the leadership of James R. McClung, clinical psychologist and PET in­ structor. The first class will begin Saturday, April 5, at the First Congregational church, 461 Pierson street, with an all- day session followed by six Tuesday evening sessions. Mr. McClung will be assisted by Rev. James W. Bidle, senior minister of the church and licensed instructor. A second class, a mini-course, will be offered April 10. "Parents are blamed but not trained," explains McClung, "and because of the need for i such training, Dr. Thomas Gordon designed this course." It is taught by specially trained instructors in hundreds of communities in every state and several foreign countries. The number of parents enrolled in PET has doubled each year. "Millions of mothers and fathers take on a job each year that ranks among the most difficult anyone can have", according to McClung, "and few have had any real training to help take this infant, a tiny person, and raise him to a responsible' member of society." McClung feels that PET can provide the in­ terpersonal skills needed to fill this void. " v. The course shows parents how to reduce conflicts, how to set up rules that kids stick to, and how to get children to be considerate of parent needs. PET methods are adaptable to fit children of all ages. The methods are appropriate in other relationship as well. McClung received his M.A. in Clinical Psychology from West Virginia university and has been with Lake County Mental Health center for three years as a clinical psychologist. Previous to that he worked with the Special Education district of McHenry county as a school psychologist. He had had significant experience working with children in individual, group and family therapy. Hog Farmers Meet To Form Area Association Hog farmers will meet at the McHenry County Farm Bureau building Moriday, April 1, to finalize plans to form a local Pork Producers association. Farmers from McHenry, Lake and Boone counties met in mid- March to learn advantages of a county-area association, and decided to move forward with plans to organize. To build plans for the 8 p.m. meeting at the McHenry County Farm Bureau April 1, those at the mid-March meeting named the following -BULLETIN- McHENRY, ILL. Nation-wide ad­ vertising and promotion is one of the major uses of this money. An October Porkfest, a luau promotion, and other ideas to encourage the use of pork are being presented with this farmer-contributed money. Material about pork is being sent medical doctors informing them about changes in pork. Each year, the National Pork Producers funds research to help find answers to production problems. The National Pork Producers council keeps on top of legislative action in Washington, giving farmer producers an auxiliary voice to that which Farm Bureau also provides.
