John Mosiman, performing artist, will appear at the next general meeting of Parents Without Partners, Chapter 189, Friday evening, April 4, at 8:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the American Legion hall, Woodstock, and Oak streets, Crystal Lake. Mosiman has developed a fascinating new form of cultural entertainment called "Musical Painting." He creates large paintings while drawing in rhythm with music. In his performances he is ac companied by synchronized orchestral sound tracks and theatrical lighting effects. The sound system and lights involve 200 pounds of special equip ment. Since 1952 the artist has been entertaining audiences throughout the midwest and from coast to coast. His engagements have taken him to seven foreign countries. Each year he gives over 200 per formances at conventions, clubs, service organizations, churches and schools. Born in Elgin, he lived in South America for ten years after completing his studies in college. It was in Ecuador that he discovered the close relationship between music and art, and he began to develop the techniques he uses now. In 1966 he resumed his residence in the United States and currently lives in Elgin. When he returned to North America, he intended to teach art and perform his "Musical Pain tings" as the demand arose. The response was so great that within one year he was dedicating all of this time to the performance. ' Although Mosiman holds a Master's degree in Art, his program is designed for the average person who has had no art background. The scenes in his paintings have universal appeal and are based on land scapes and music from around the world; stage plays; literature; and films. Newcomers to PWP are asked to arrive by 8 p.m. for a special orientation. Refresh ments will follow the meeting and program. They help keep your kitchen cool--by heating the food and not the oven. Clean-up is easier, too. They are not all-purpose, though, as many do not brown steaks and chops, for example. You must adhere to different cooking techniques, too. If you're in the market for one of these, follow some basic buying guides: Read the instruct on and recipe manuals. Pay special attention to "timing;" about four minutes for one potato, for^example, but eight minutes may be required for two. Understand which guarantees and warranties each manufacturer offers. Inquire about replacement cost' for megatrons and other parts Ask about rates for servicing. Examine the various models. For example, atabletop (portable) or a free standing range (con taining both microwave and con ventional ovens) may be what you want Consult your local utility company for guidance on energy saving aspects of the particular model you intend to purchase.
