The posts have a series of three lights, green, yellow and red. The city may also purchase a number of smaller "mushroom" lights. Three new homes are under construction. Patrick Cleary is having one built on Waukegan street and Dr. N.J. Nye is having a home built on a lot on the Jacob Bishop estate. This property was purchased by Dr. Nye more than a year ago. Thomas McLaughlin is also having a new home erected on his property near the bridge. N.H. Petesch, who a short time ago disposed of his drug business in this city, has rented office quarters in the John A. Stilling tire shop on Pearl street and is now actively engaged in the real estate business in this city. George Rothermel, for many years one of McHenry's most esteemed and well known citizens, passed away at his late home on Riverside Drive this week. The deceased was a civil war veteran, for many years conducted a wood working shop in this city, served as a member of the municipal board and for a time held the office of East side policeman. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Martin have moved out from Chicago and are now occupying the flat in the Heimer block on Elm street. Mr. Martin will be employed by J.P. Weber, local contractor. Through the efforts of the newly organized Centerville Business Men's Association, the business section of Green street is now illuminated by means of four 600-candle power lights. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 11, 1935) Harry Nielsen of Chicago will be the propri 'tor of the Green street bakery, which will open Saturday for the season. Mrs. Agnes Wentworth formerly conducted the bakery. Mr. Nielsen will bring his wife and little son to McHenry to live soon. William Mertes, who has conducted the Oak Park hotel at Pistakee Bay for many years, has rented the Riverside hotel in McHenry from Fred Justen and will carrry on from both places. His brother, Charles, will be in charge of the local place. The girls of the high school went to Harvard Thursday after school where they enjoyed a swim in the pool at the Harvard high school. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bur- chall of Chicago have become permanent residents of this vicinity moving out to their cottage in the Stenger, Owen, Allen subdivision. The high school election will take place at the city hall on Saturday. On the high school board Dr. A.I. Froehlich and Ben Justen are seeking reelection. They are opposed by Anton Schmitt and Leo Winkel. The high school mixed chorus will give a concert in preparation for an appearance at Harvard next week. The chorus directed by Miss O'Gara, is a new organization at school. The members are chosen from the McHenry Glee club. Mrs. Joanne Ruelien's brother, A H. Wenck of Seattle is a visitor in McHenry. Mr. Wenck is president of the Gray Line Tours, Inc., an organization in Seattle. Mr. Wenck, accompanied by Mr. Lowax of Spokane, made the trip to Chicago, a distance of 2,400 miles leaving Seattle Monday morning and arriving in McHenry Thursday mor­ ning. Fr. Paul Tucklinsky, former assistant pastor of St. May's church in McHenry, leaves St. Mary's church of Elizabeth, 111., where he has been pastor for the past six years. He has been appointed by the Bishop of Rockford to succeed (he Rev. Raymond Harner deceased as pastor of St. Mary's church in Galena, 111. Wonder Lake now has a doctor in the person of Dr. S.L. Ruggero who began his practice of medicine there on April 17. He moved to Wonder Lake from Chicago where lie had practiced for two and one half years. He is a graduate of the Loyola School of Medicine with the class of 1947. A very beautiful early spring wedding was solemnized at St. Mary's church April 15, uniting in marriage Miss Betty Blake, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Blake of Green street and Mr. Louis Piagentini of Volo, Rt. Rev. Msgr. S.C. Nix officiated at the nuptial service. George William Thiell, 82, a retired Chicago business man, was found dead in a summer cottage at Sunnyside Beach, near Johnsburg, Monday af­ ternoon by a nephew, Roy S. Buess of Chicago, slumped in a chair. A coroner's jury returned a verdict of death due to cerebral hemorrhage. T.F. "Todd" Nolan of Door township who has served as supervisor on the county board for the past eleven years was electoj chairman to succeed Math «. Schmitt of McHenry. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 15, 1965) McNeal Memorial hospital, Berwyn, recently named Miss Frances Hughes, RN head nurse of the emergency room, as their "Employee of the Year" for 1964. Burglars entered the Legion home on Green street Tuesday night and made away with $40 in cash and a dozen different types of guns used by rifle squad, a camera and transistor radio as well as seven or eight cases of liquor. Peter Merkel, 38, a Junior high school teacher in McHenry, died unexpectedly in McHenry hospital April 14. He was a sixth grade instructor and coach in McHenry for the last six years. Damage estimated at about $1,500 was reported to the William Maggio home at Whispering Hills resulting from fire. A member of the family was watching television and the flames were caused by a short in the TV set. Mayor Donald P. Doherty cut the ribbon which marked the grand opening of the new Gladstone Department store on Green street.
