PAGE 4 - PLAINDEALER-WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16, 1975 Wonder Lake 6. Mary Jean Huff S • 728-0267 Sponsor Good Old Days Dance Saturday April I 7 Saturday night's the night to go out and "kick up your heels" like we used to in the Good Old Days. As a matter of fact, that's the name of the dance - The Good Old Days "Dance", sponsored by the Ladies Sodality of Christ the King. Old fashioned music will greet you at the door at 9 p.m. at the church hall. Everyone from 19 to 99 is welcome and singles are cordially invited. It will be an old fashioned evening with old fashioned decorations, old fashioned refreshments and music dating back to the 50's, 40's, 30's, . . . Don't forget the date, Saturday, April 19. HAWAII VISITORS How do you celebrate a thirty-fifth wedding an niversary and a twenty-fifth wedding anniversary? Simple. You gather together eight people and go to Hawaii for fifteen days. This is exactly what Frank and Lorraine Houda of White Oaks Bay, who have been married 35 years, and Ed and Gloria Coughlin of Wooded Shores, with 25 years of togetherness chalked up, - did. Enjoying this anniversary trip celebration along with the two couples were Evelyn and John Gustek and Evelyn Raske of Indian Ridge and Larry McGuire, who has the good fortune in life to be Gloria's uncle. The Wonder Lake en tourage visited four islands and (putting it mildly) had a "good time". BELATED BIRTHDAY Belated birthday greetings to Joey Firnbach who was 12 years old on March 26 and to his brother. Billy, who was 11 years old on April 8. The boys are the children of Bill and JoAnn Firnbach. A party planned for the day of our great April blizzard had to be can celed and was finally held last Wednesday, April 9. After they took both sons and seven of their friends bowiing, the group returned home where mom had hot dogs and birthday cake waiting. FIRE. PIZZA FOR FIREMEN Calling our Wonder Lake Volunt&r Fire Department is one thing most of us hope we never have to do. But let's face it, how many people who do need their help, have a tasty, hot pizza waiting for the volunteers when their job is done! Well, when three fire trucks with over twenty firemen pulled into the Bob Anderson driveway last Thursday evening, Judy An derson arrived home about the same time with the family supper - pizza. Fortunately, the fire was limited to the fuse box in the basement and the firemen took care of the problem with their usual ef ficiency and thoroughness - and just in time for pizza - still warm - a little smoky, maybe...Bob and Judy, you have it, the nomination and almost sure winner of the "Victims of the Year Award!" Nativity Lutheran Church Eastwood Manor Mary Ann Bellak 385-5705 Install Stop Signs At Manor, Eastwood Corner •. The combined efforts of E a s t w o o d M a n o r ' s Homeowner's Association, Clarence Regner and Tom Brink, Eastwood and Manor has now at long last become a three point stop. It happened this past Friday morning when both signs were installed. Mr. Regner said he hopes this will solve our problem on Eastwood and Manor. I just recently notified Sheriff Art Tyrrell about the change and enforcement on all stop signs and hope to have results within the near future. Mr. Regner also mentioned something very important that will follow in my next paragraph, you will also be reminded about it through the years ahead, either through flyers, in my column or at Homeowner's meetings, so there shouldn't be any reason for breaking the law. The snow plows this past winter had no cooperation. Cars were parked on both sides of the street on Country Lane just north of Manor, also in other areas. I would like to add that cars should always be parked in your driveway and not in the street, summertime is upon us and children will be out of school and all over the place, would you like to be responsible for a child darting out from your car parked in the street and to get hit by an oncoming car, bicycle or motorcycle? BICY CLES Bicycles are to follow the same rules as cars, you are to stop at the stop signs, among many other rules, it's for your own safety as well as the other persons safety. Head Of Viscounts Plans For Reconstruction Crystal Lake resident, Tom Day, 158 College street, has taken over the controls of the McHenry County Viscounts Drum and Bugle corps. He plans a complete recon struction of the group into a Civil Air patrol marching unit and drum and bugle corps. Day started in 1947 by following his two older brothers' footsteps, Bob and Ken, by joining the Norwood Park Cadets. Tom left the Cadets as drum major in 1952 and played one year with the Imperials. In 1953 he signed up with the Cavaliers as french horn player and stayed with them until 1958. In addition to drum corps, Tom was a captain in the Civil Air patrol and commander of the Illinois state championship C.A.P. drill team and was a captain and M&M instructor of the city championship R.O.T.C. drill team of Taft high school. Tom was M&M instructor of the Scarlet Knights and was elected a Marine of the Year in 1959 and 1960. In 1960 and 1961 he marched as drum major of the Skokie Indians and was public relations manager of the Cavaliers of Park Ridge. , T.J. Day, as he is referred to in his editorials on drum corps, has written many articles for both the Digest and Drum Corps News. Tom married former Chicago singer, Lynn Johnson, in 1962 and shortly after moved West. In 1964,1965 and 1966, Day was a major factor in building the champion Kingsmen of Anahiem, Calif. He was their M&M instructor. Tom is now advisor to the Cavaliers, an Ail-American M&M judge and has started the drum and bugle corps known as the 10th Cavalary in East Palo Alto, Calif., area, the first Illinois volunteers of Wheeling and raised money for the Vanguard of Santa Clara, Calif. Last year he taught the Crown High Imperials band and judged at the annual Romeoville band show. Tom is also responsible for building the First Combine, now D.C.I, show in Wheeling.
