NURSERY NEWS Early in the afternoon on April 9, Brian Baker started popping buttons and from what I hear they are still popping: The reason is that on that date he and his wife Lilyann, became the very proud parents of a beautiful baby girl. Little April Lynn was born in Woodstock Memorial Hospital at 1:52 p.m: She weighed 7.1bs., 8 oz., at birth. Her maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank KruCger of Rolling Meadows. April also has a great- grandn^fither on Mom's side, Lily Battaglia of Rolling Meadows. Paternal Grand parents are Herbert and Margaret Baker. April Lynn has all those folks plus Tricia-12, Beth-9, and Billy-5, who are spoiling her royally. Congratulations to the Baker family on teir new arrival. CANCER DRIVE If a volunteer collecting for the cancer fund hasn't been to visit you yet, she will be there some time in the very near future. Please open your heart as you open your door and give; let's all try to make this the last or near to the last year that funds must be raised. As you donate money say a prayer that the cause and cure are found very, very soon. BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION Cherie Mumma celebrated her birthday in a very different way this year First of all, by having the year's biggest snowfall of the year on her birthday-April 2. Bud, l^usty, and myself trekked Hnough the snow to Cherie's to help celebrate with her husband, Dick, and boys- Steve, Chris, a-nd Scott. We all enjoyed coffee, cake and ice cream. Cherie received some nice gifts. The second celebration was at the Abbey, where Cherie and Dick went on Saturday, April 5, to see the play "Good-Bye, Charlie" which starred Donatelle and was produced by Gerald Peterra-both of McHenry. Saturday was Donna's gift to Cherie. They've been friends since high school days. DEBATE DEMONSTRATION - The East campus debating team came to Edgebrook school April 16 to demonstrate the process of debate for the fourth graders. Members of the team included Scott Crittenden, Sally Treichel, Pam Dorsey and Mary Gattone. Some of the fourth grade boys and girls from Mrs. Kohrt's and Mrs. Guzzetta's classes are preparing to give a debate between their two rooms and the debators from East campus volunteered their services. . She's anxiously waiting for Donna's next appearance; which will be in"Twigs". The opening for that was on Fridav April 18 and runs til May 17. "This was the best birthday, yet " says Cherie. IN CLOSING Saturday, April 12, I worked as a judge of the school board election along with Alyce Kowal and Ruth Kroncke and we were at the polls from noon till 7 p.m. During those seven hours we had the grand total of 27 registered voters come out to cast their ballots. It really amazes us how few people come out to vote. We have many registered voters in Lakemoor and in Lilymoor and yet the turnout is really rotten. If you have any complaints regarding the school board or any person who ran in any other election, if you did not vote you h'ave no right to voice your opinion, pro or con, tfnd I imagine if your vote qualified your complaint then all judges would be very busy on election day. If every election was hush- hush then you would have an excuse but they are not and therefore you don't. So the next time an election is scheduled - go to your polls and exercise your rights and vote. MARGARET O'NEIL Clerk of the Court (Pub. April 16, 23&30, 1975) Johnsburg School April 23-24 Eye, Ear Screening Registration "Do you actually know whether your child is seeing and hearing normally?", is the question asked by the McHenry County Health department. Certified technicians of the McHenry County Health department, in cooperation with the Johnsburg P. T.O., will conduct a pre-school vision and hearing screening program for all 3 through 5-year-old children at the Johnsburg Community club., May 20 through 23 from 9 to 11 and 1 to 3. It is necessary to register children for the screening program. Registration will be held April 23 and 24 at John sburg elementary school from 9 to 11:30 and 1 to 3. At that time the parents will be given a vision readiness game to play with the children so that they will be prepared for the screening. Members of Johnsburg P.T.O. will serve as volunteers on the registration and screening days. Parents are frequently not aware that a child could have "lazv eye" blindness or am blyopia in one eye, or low vision in both eyes. They are also apt to be unaware of hearing problems in one or both ears. The purpose of the screening is to locate the pre-school age children with possible vision and hearing problems and to identify those needing special educational services because of limitations. There is no charge to parents for the screening. The screening is for all 3 through 5- year-olds regardless of the economic level of the family. All children who have dif ficulty cooperating in the screening will be asked to return at a later date to be rescreened. If the child still has difficulty at the time of rescreening, the parents will be advised to seek complete diagnostic examination for the child. The Illinois State Depart ment of Public Health provides training and certification for the technicians who do the screening and rescreening.
