PAGE 6-SECTION 2-PLAINDEALER-WEDNESDAY, AP&IL 30, 1975 Twice Told Tales FIFTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 30, 1925) Mr. Richard B. Walsh of McHenry has recently been made manager of the bond department of the American Trust company, the largest banking house in South Bend, Ind. A pretty wedding and one of unusual interest to the young people of this community was solemnized at St. Mary's Catholic church in this city Wednesday morning of this week, when Miss Dorothy Anna Freund became the wife of Mr. Ambrose Henry Schaefer, the ceremony was performed by Rev. Charles S. Nix, pastor. A large number of tourists passed through and stopped in this city last Sunday. The McHenry park for the first time this season was inhabited during the noon hour by , numerous tourists who stopped to eat lunch. All five of the Jepson children of Ringwood have been quite ill with measles. Miss Edegina Wiser of Volo, who is in training to be a sister at the Milwaukee Sisters' Home, spent several days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wiser. The young people of John- sburg entertained in honor of Miss Elizabeth Freund of this city, a bride-to-be at Kempfer's hall in that village. The honored guest was presented with a lovely rocker and rug. Before the largest opening day crowd that has ever gathered at the McHenry ball park Aurora, last Sunday af ternoon won over the Rome team by a score of 8 to 6. FORTY YEARSAGO (Taken from the files of May 2, 1935) The McHenry Community high school and the public grade school are closed this week because of the illness of students. This week cases of measles with a few cases of scarlet fever have invaded the schools. On Sunday McHenry received the first of 154 hours of summer sunshine made possible by pushing the clock ahead one hour. Boy Scouts of America as well as Scouts throughout the nation are interested in the National Boy Scout Jamboree to be held at Washington, D C., from Aug. 21 to 30, when 33,000 boys from the United States and an estimated 3,000 foreign Scouts will assemble for probably the largest jamboree in the history of national scouting. One boy will be sent from McHenry to attend this national camp. Sisters of Miss Helen Smith planned a prenuptial shower in her honor Sunday afternoon and the assembling of the guests was a complete surprise to the bride-to-be. She was presented with a gift from her friends present. Miss Smith will become the bride of Mr. Her man Kreutzer, Jr. The McHenry Brewers baseball team of Volo played the Mundelein team Sunday at the Volo diamond, Volo won by a score of 7 to 3. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of May 11, 1950) Another year of recording the events of interest in McHenry and surrounding community has faded into memory for the Plaindealer. Few alive today remember the first owner Jay Van Slyke, who founded the paper and served as its editor for twenty-six years. Many, however, will recall the more recent owners, among them the late Frank Schreiner who purchased the paper and served as publisher until selling to Charles F. Renich in 1925. After the latter's death his widow, Lucy Renich, became owner until selling in 1948 to A.H. Mosher who had served as editor for twenty-three years. The annual concert of the Legal Notice IN.
