PAGE 14-SUPPLEMENT TO McHENRY PLAINDEALER-MAY 2, 1975 Sweep Mom Off Her Feet With Color "Color makes housework less boring. It's a stimulus that can lead to more efficient, fast er housework and less drudgery." And that's exactly what today's homemaker is look ing for. So says Louis Cheskin, director of the Color Re search Institute, a 30-year- old organization that stud ies the effects of color in homes and in industry. Cheskin said today's homemakers are opting for vivid splashes of color not only in their household decor, but in such function al appliances as washing machines, vacuum cleaners and coffee-makers. He related the new color consciousness to women's changing lifestyles. With Mother's Day just around the corner, take a look at how the new life styles have affected Mom's approach to homemaking. It might give you a good clue for a much-appreci- ated Mother's Day gift. Not too long ago, her world centered around the home. But today, she's like ly to be among the 41.5 percent of all married wom en who work. Even if she doesn't hold down a job. she's probably involved in several activities outside the home. Either way, she wants' housework to be less bor ing and time - consuming than it was in the past, said Cheskin. Eureka Home Care In stitute experts consulted Cheskin recently after re designing Eureka's line of upright and Power Team vacuum cleaners. Like so many of today's practical appliances that you may be considering for a Mother's Day gift, the cleaners sport bold, bright hues, includ ing tangerine, Big Bad Or ange, pumpkin and Arctic Blue. Cheskin noted that bright hues in the red and yellow families are most popular among homemakers, as they stimulate the pace of their housecleaning. Blue shades, however, will slow down and relax the hyper active homemaker. But color isn't the only bright spot in contempor ary vacuums. In a recent survey, Eur eka Home Care Institute experts found that 96 per cent of the womeh ques tioned rated the vacuum cleaner as their single most important home appliance because of its versatility in helping them find house- cleaning shortcuts. Uprights and Power Teams have an array of convenience/cleaning fea tures that help make every day Mother's Day. Power Teams are the revolution ary two - in - one vacuums that blend the strong suc tion of a canister with the agitation and deep clean ing power of an upright. I The Power Team's Roto- Matic carpet cleaning tool adjusts automatically to any carpet height, while uprights have easy-to- reach Dial-a-Nap and Rug- ulator carpet height con trols that enable the vac uum to clean any carpet from low naps to the thick est, plushest shags. New engineering devices like Edge Kleener tackle dirt in corners and along baseboards, without the use of a crevice tool or any other attachment. Practical, yes? And, con sidering the stunning new colors, pretty, too. With the wide variety' of modern cleaning appliances avail able today as Mother's Day gifts, Mom will really be swept off her feet -- be cause they're no longer just utilitarian items, but as Cheskin points out, can provide the homemaker with a real psychological boost. The mother's heart is the child's schoolroom. H. W. Innovative Levo- lor Riviera blinds have slen der aluminum slats and come in over 100 exciting colors and patterns, enough to jazz-up any window. Unusual printed patterns available in these new blinds are great accents for mono chromatic areas, and the unique gingham check pat tern is a favorite with Americana enthusiasts. Riviera blinds can also help Mom save on air con ditioning and heating bills. Aluminum blinds at the window act as a thermal barrier against heat rays which can penetrate un protected glass. The re flective blinds bounce these heat rays back toward their source, reducing interior heat gain in summer, heat loss in winter, and a cash loss from wasted energy all year 'round. She can save on lighting bills, too. During the day slats can be tilted to let iit sunlight, and at night, closed slats will reflect ar tificial light back into the room. Mom will like the new blinds because they're easy to keep clean as well. And Levolor's Magic Wand Cuardian Tilter lets Mom open or close the blind with a twist of the fingertips. When slats are in a hori zontal position, the blind, with its unobtrusive sup port cords, seems to disap pear.
