The second game was postponed until Monday due to rain. Ron Himpelmann, in relief of Dave Wickenkamp, was the winning pitcher. Wickenkamp pitched six innings and struck out 13 Warhawk batters. And taking the second spot for the second week running was Gene Erdman of Hartland, Wis. Erdman took the lead early and held on for 10 laps but Wondra skillfully maneuvered through traffic and then rode right on Erdman's tail, making his bid for the lead when Erd­ man began experiencing dif­ ficulty holding the car close to the rail on the turns. Midway through the 25-lap race, Tom Sexton of Crystal Lake and Bill Klein of Burlington, Wis., both spun out going into the first turn but managed to get their cars out of the way of the onrushing pack without being hit. In the 15-lap semi-feature for sportsman cars, George Todd of Milwaukee spun out on the back straightaway but also managed to get out of the way of traffic. The sportsman feature race again proved to be a crowd pleaser as brothers Duke and Sid Norton, visiting driver George Scheffler, Don Collins, Randy Storm and Chuck Ostergaard all fought it out in a 15-lap race which saw the lead change eight times. While Collins and Sid Norton of McHenry battled each other back in the pack, Duke took advantage of his mid-field starting position to move up rapidly. They scored 101 points to easily out distance Palatine who had 68 for the runnerup spot. Rockford Jefferson placed third with 56 points followed by Woodstock with 41 and Dundee trailed the field with 33. bumper and began jostling him in the turns. Fitch finally gave way and Norton then went after last week's feature winner,-George Scheffler, who drives a well- worn but extremely fast 1957 Chevrolet. Once again, the leading four cars in the sportsman feature were mere feet apart as they crossed the finish for the checkered flag, with Norton and Storm finishing one and two. In the sportsman semi- feature, Jeff Hutchinson had an easy time of it, lapping a number of slower cars and beating Danny Brown of McHenry to the finish by a quarter of a lap. Brown did give him a run for his money earlier in the race before losing ground when he drifted wide in turn four. The 15-lap super modified semi-feature also proved a runaway for Bill Kojis, who drives a beautifully prepared car. Although the track was in better shape this week, drivers said the new clay in the turns is still causing problems. Track officials blamed heavy rains during the week for preventing work on the running surface until Friday. Even without the services of senior sprinter Ev Klapperich, the Warriors displayed plenty of power and depth. John Mclnerney won both the mile and 2 mile runs, running the mile in his best time ever a neat 4:29.9. Brian Nuss was the only other Warrior who had double victories as he won the 330 low hurdles and long jump. Brett Decker heaved the discus 142' to pick up a first place medal, and George Hansen vaulted 13'8" for another first place. McHenry won 3 relays, winning the varsity 440, and the frosh-soph came back to win both the 440 and 880 relays. On Saturday the Warriors travel to Libertyville for the North Suburban Conference meet. There were 82 gals to enjoy their first day. The sunshine and a little breeze made it a delightful day for all of us. Maureen Doherty sank an approach shot on No. 5 for a par. We are anticipating many enjoyable events for the season planned by the Games Com­ mittee. Mr. Pat McDonald has the course in fine condition and some new sand traps that will present a challenge to us. Also a ladies new elevated tee on No. 9. Friday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. the Johnsburg Rescue squad will be at the Chapel Hill club house for a demonstration on C.P.R. This is open to the public and hope many will attend as possible. It will be helpful for all of us to know in case of an emergency. Don't forget gals - Tee time Tuesday. The Flying D Ranch, of Wauconda is presenting a Rodeo, May 31 and June 1, in which you are invited to par­ ticipate. A few of the entries are calf roping, steer wrestling and the cutting horse contest for the boys. For the girls they have the goat tying contest, clover leaf-barrel race, and pole bending race, plus others. A trophy buckle and ribbons will be awarded in each event, plus a special award for "Ail- Around cowgirl and cowboy." Following the rodeo, May 31, is a Country and Western dance. Bolger were remembered for this interest in an amusing way on the occasion of their retirement from office last week. Each received a large framed picture of himself as a THOMAS F. BOLGER baseball player. A White Sox player with shoulder length hair was depicted with a bat on his shoulder and Walsh's face superimposed on the picture. Bolger's face was shown on a baseball player in a Shamrock uniform. Bolger managed the team some years ago.
