STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Senior Citizens Plan Many Spring Events The next meeting of the McHenry Senior Citizens club will be held Monday evening, May 12, at 7:30 p.m. at East campus cafeteria. The program for the evening will be the Crystal Lake high school freshman quartet, with Jim Nelson, director, and featuring Don Moore, Jeff Dixson, Dan Albrecht and Jeff Wollam. There were over 200 mem­ bers in attendance when president Kenneth Bousher MR. AND MRS. JAMES HETTERMANN WED 25 YEARS - Mr. and Mrs. James Hettermann of 3914 N. Spring Grove road, Johnsburg, will observe their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary by hosting a reception for family members and invited guests May 17 in the Johnsburg Community club hall. A Mass honoring the occasion will be read at 3 o'clock in St. John's church, where the couple were married May 13, 1950. The HetterriiaiinS have three children, Mrs. James (Joy) Boarini of Forest Park, Mrs. David (Karen) Rothery of Evansville, Ind., and Scott at home. Mr. Bowsher informed the membership that there will be another Driver Refresher course for those having to renew their licenses. These sessions will be held the last three Wednesdays: May 14, May 21, and May 28 at the city hall from 10 a.m. to noon. Here is a chance to attend the review or refresher classes which will enable one to "brush up" on current signs, rules and regulations, and thus more quickly and efficiently pass renewal tests. Mr. Bowsher should be called to register. Frank Giel cautioned the bowlers who will be attending the banquet May 8 at Branded Steak House to be sure and have tickets with them. There are still a few reser­ vations left for the bus trip to the Chicago Loop Wednesday, May 14. The buses will leave the McHenry State bank parking lot at 8:45 a.m. Contact „ Viola and George Binder promptly to make reservations. There are only a very few available. The buses for the Tulip festival at Holland, Mich., will leave the McHenry Savings and Loan association parking lot Thursday, May 15, at 6 a.m. There are still a few reser­ vations available for the bus trip to Mill Run Wednesday evening, June 18. There will be two buses for this trip. A bus trip to see the Chicago Cubs play in July or August is in the planning instead of going to Milwaukee for a ball game. A brunch-Boat trip at Lake Geneva, Wis., is also in the planning stage. There is the Ice Capades in November, and something special in December is also on the agenda. John Doerr is busy getting all these special events arranged. The kitchen band had its first get-together of the season April 30 and is receiving many requests for programs. All requests should be made in writing to the band secretary, Lyda Radisch. A coffee was hosted by Dorie Koenig at her Waterfall house in Johnsburg May 2. This was also a kick-off meeting to establish plans for a House Walk Into Gracious Country Living, to be held June 22. The House Walk will benefit the Restoration fund of St. John the Baptist church, Johnsburg. The church, a beautiful Ger­ man Gothic structure, is in need of restoration costing $500,000. At this initital meeting, chairmen and their various duties were determined. Fran Olsen is the general chairman of the Walk and is also in charge of the hostesses. Other chairmen are Gayle Bonus, Publicity committee; Mary Jane Nowak, Ticket com­ mittee, and Frank Schafer, Traffic committeee. All are from Johnsburg. There will be three houses featured in the Walk. All are waterfront homes located in the Dutch Creek Woodlands sub­ division of Johnsburg. One house will be the in­ ternationally famous Waterfall La Leche League -In Two Meetings % The McHenfy-East group of - La Leche League, including Johnsburg and Fox Lake, will meet this month Wednesday, May 14, at 8 p.m., and the McHenfy-West ' group, in­ cluding Wonder Lake and Rich­ mond, will meet Thursday, /May 15, at 8 p.m. to discuss '-"The Advantages of Breast- ^eedirifc". Anyone intefested is welcome to attend, and babies ^toO. League mothers get together each month to help each other learn "better "mothering through breast­ feeding", and to give each other encouragement and moral support, as well as to ' receive valuable infofriiation through meeting discussion and through the use of the group's lending library. This month they will discuss such advantages as - > (1) The immunity in mother's • milk protects baby against " allergies and infection; (2) Breastfeeding provides baby with the nutritionally perfect food, uniquely designed for the development of his infant brain, and readily '] available, at the right tem­ perature, at all hours; (3) The ease of travel and ..vacationing with a nursing -^infant, plus much more, on this ~ and related subjects. Garden Club Sponsors Sale The McHenry Garden club will sponsor a Plant and White Elephant sale Tuesday, May 20 at 9 a.m. at the "Just for Fun" Roller rink, 914 Front street, McHenry. A good selection of perennials " to plant in the garden now and many house plants to use in terraniums and hanging baskets will be offered. In February there was a money maker for the term, a very successful roast beef dinner. There was a great turnout, resulting in a good profit. On April 10, Lisa Hull, senior Princess of Bethel 98, held her Advance night. An Advance night is where the Princess becomes honored Queen for the evening. She had girls from Palatine, Loves Park and Elgin, as well as girls from '98' as her officers. Her theme for the evening was "The Time to be Happy is Now" and included a backdrop which she had embroidered and sewn herself. On May 9 and 10 the annual ACTING ASHAMED An actor and a banker found themselves seated next to each other at one of those fund-raising affairs. "I'm ashamed to admit it," said the banker, "but 1 have not been to the theater in five years." "Don't let it bother you," replied the actor, "I haven't been in a bank in ten years. Hold Valley-Hi Jinks Festival. trg After a burst of activity, the eighty-nine patients at the McHenry County Nursing home are ready for the Valley-Hi Jinks festival Saturday, May 10, to be held on the grounds in - Hartland from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A display of arts and crafts created by the patients will be1 the heart of the fair, an annual project of the Crystal Lake . Woman's club. County visitors ' will be able to visit the many additional facilities of the home, such as the physical therapy room, the dental service, the beauty shop, and the social activities provisions. "Funds raised through fair sales as well as contributions from businesses and industry will help defray the cost of a ' mini-bus for transportation of patients and for wheelchairs,", said Ruth Stout, chairman. Last year's proceeds were used to purchase a diathermy machine. 4 The eighty-nine patients in-# elude eleven from McHenry and four from Wonder Lake. Donations are still needed for other booths at the festival, such as white elephants, handcrafts, home-baked goods and preserves, and prizes."" Enjoy May Luncheon ' The McHenry County Christian Women's club will have its May luncheon Wed­ nesday, May 14, at Martinetti's restaurant in Crystal Lake. Luncheon will be served at 12:15. Featured on the program will be a demonstration of cake decorating by Mrs. Barb Sorenson of Wonder Lake. The theme is "Trash, Trivia, and Treasure Sale", and with more than twenty families participating, much can be guaranteed to everyone. Next Sunday the their parents are girls and going to Shady Lane for a dinner and play. Other plans for May include a bike hike and a car wash. In June there will be installation of officers. Job's Daughters is open to any girl between the ages of 12 and 20 who has proper Masonic affiliation. They meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of every month at the Masonic temple in McHenry. For more information, call 459-1930. Kewanee, 111., will be the speaker of the day. Mrs. Witte i!s a homemaker, mother of two, and was recently elected to the Board of Education of Kewanee. She is also a past chairman of the Kawnee Christian Women's club. Free nursery facilities for pre-schoolers will be available at the First Baptist church on highway 31, S. in Crystal Lake.- Reservations must be made by noon Monday, May 12, by calling 385-5475. All women are invited to attend. KATHY HARPER PLAN WEDDING - The approaching marriage of Kathy Harper to Randall Messamore will take place at the Wonder Lake Bible church May 31. Kathy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Muriel Harper of 105 Sunset drive, McHenry. Randall's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Messamore of 7220 Delaware road, Wonder Lake. The groom-to-be is a senior at Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music and will graduate this May. Miss Harper will graduate from Wauconda high school with the class of 1975, having completed the year in January.
