Everyone is urged to be on the alert and prevent demolition of historic sites, buildings, houses and take individual and collective action in order to preserve the heritage. The Society says: "Preservation, like chairity, begins at home - support the McHenry County Historical society in its goal of preserving the history and artifacts of your county. Preservation is big business. Americans are ex pected to spend $80 billion a year during the bicentennial era to see their nation's land marks. Save something for them to see." Announcements are going out this week, setting Sunday, June 8. 1:30 p.m. for the twelfth annual meeting of the McHenry County Historical society at the Museum in Union. Dues will become payable on or before that date. If possible, send check in advance to avoid confusion at the door. There has been an inquiry for descendants of George and Semantha Lilly. Anyone with knowledge of this family please write the Society. No town was given but they came to the county in 1840. Four volumes, Farm Festival, published 1882; Farm Ballads, 1882; Farm Legends, 1875 and City Ballads, 1886, all written by Will Carleton, were turned over to the Society. They were found in the Levey residence in Ridgefield. Anyone knowing of this family and when they lived there write or call 338-1985 or 923-4105. These books look verv in teresting and would bear doing some research on them. Painting is still going on at the museum by director, A1 Maidak of Crystal Lake. The museum will be far from ready at the time of the annual meeting unless a crew of able i bodied men show up to move cases from downstairs to second floor and put in per manent place. Anyone wishing to report for work - days or evenings - call the previously listed numbers.
