Each year we see many of the same people gathered for the program to honor those who gave their lives for us. The crowd was large, but should have been much larger. It pays to get around. Sure enough she had something for us -- a band to put around your head, with "Sox Swingers" printed across the front. Mona said it is to keep the sun out of our eyes. Second-place team had Judy Smithson, Barb Weber and Esther Jemiola; while third- place team had Dee Overton, Emily Hester and Faye Stuart. Now, on to more current events. It was a bee-utiful day in pleasant down-town McHenry on Tuesday, the 27th of May when the gals at McHenry County Club shot-gun teed off for their Tennessee Dog Fight event. Some really fine drives were exhibited by the long-ball hitters while others displayed their skills in smooth putting. Alvina Yopp, Betty Smith and Margie Blomquist put it all together and were in first place with a gross of 84, followed by the team of Marty Jemiola, Fran Weyland and Dot Freund two strokes behind for an 86 to put them in second. Only one shot off that at 87 for third place was the team of Carol Cooney, Virginia Spengel and Mabel Smith. Two teams tied for fourth place with an 89 each. They were Floss O'Connell, Carol Seese and Myrt Johnson; and, Judy Smithson, Evie Guntner and Dot Baker. No individ-scores were registered for the day but some nice in­ dividual shots were made to help put the leading teams up front. On No. 2 Judy Smithson chipped in from several yards off the^reen to give her team a bird. Next week will find the ladies shooting their annual Flag Day tournament and also qualifying for Match Play which begins the 10th of June and runs for three weeks. May we all be blest with sunshine every Tuesday! Led by the blonde beauty of Wonder Lake, Lorraine Young, this is the day that the nine-holers officially opened their season's schedule. Twenty six enthusiastic swingers turned out for the event which was a take-any- three-clubs. Marianne Cristy chose properly and scored 67 to put her in first place. She was followed closely by ole happy- face Marilyn Adams with a 68 for second place. To attest to her leadership, Lorraine Young walked off with low putts, taking only 17. Not to be out­ done by some of the "big girls", a couple of new faces on the scene saved their putting skills by chipping in from off the green. They were Deanna Hopper on No. 5 and Melanie Frett on No. 6. Reported second or third hand was the fact that Joan Horne found 5 water balls in the creek. Ron Himplemann was the losing pitcher. Tommy Ludwig hit a homer for the Warriors. The loss leaves McHenry with a 9 and 7 North Suburban record and 18and7 for the season. Some time next week the Warriors will close out their season with a doubleheader at Libertyville. The sophs lost 3 and 0 and the frosh won 12 to 6. Pershing Road, Chicago; and on Sunday, June 22, 1975, at Niles West High School, Oakton Street and the Edens Expressway, Skokie, Illinois. These camps will begin at 9:00 A.M. and extend into the af­ ternoon. Professional in­ structors will give instructions and advice for improving baseball skills. Ben Zientara (former Major League in- fielder) and Rome Pavich, area scouts for the Bureau, will be in charge. All players are requested to bring their own uniforms and equipment. In a conversation with Mr. and Mrs. Lennox Armstrong at Snug Harbor, we learned that Lennox played football for Notre Dame in 1911, then played two years for Coach Zupke at the University of Illinois. We didn't know he was THAT old! Lennox also told us he played football with John Larsen at Notre Dame. John was one of McHenry's all-time greats in all sports. Thanks to Judy Svalander we enjoyed her dance program Saturday night in the Crystal Lake High auditorium. _SP0RTS EDITOR I A great little dancer is Judy and the students she has taught are real good. When the entire cast ap­ peared on the stage together there was action like you never saw before. Son - a - man - gun they had some fun! Memorial Day may have brought some moisture, but there was nary a cloud over the victories turned in by both the Cubs and White Sox. We thought of Jack Yegge in the ninth inning when Bucky Dent (of all people) slammed a home run over the fence in Milwaukee Stadium.
