McCullom Lake Geny Milbratz 385-8543 Village Board Meets Monthly During Summer The village board will meet just once a month for June, July, August and September. Meetings will be the second Tuesday of each month, Inquiry has begun into the cost and construction of sewers. Informational Meeting Set June 18 McHenry County National Organization for Women will hold an informational meeting Wednesday evening, June 18, from 7 to 9 in the learning center of Central school, 131 Paddock street, Crystal Lake. The school is located across the street from the Crystal Lake public library. The meeting is open to the public and free child care will be provided. The evening will feature a sound film strip program, "Women: The Forgotten Majority;" narrated by Gloria Steinem. This presentation will be an introduction to the basic concepts and solutions offered in the women's movement. Refreshments will be served and informal group discussions will follow. Members of McHenry County N.O.W. will be available to discuss local ac tivities and interests. PLAN STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL - The Strawberry Festival sponsored by the Pioneer club will be held Saturday, June 28, starting at 10 a.m. (rain date will be June 29). The event will be held in the courtyard on Broadway, Richmond. Strawberry shortcake will be featured plus sundaes, barbecue, hot dogs, coffee and pop. Homemade bakery will also be sold. Alyce Schroeder has been appointed director of civil defense for McCullom Lake. Having a civil defense director assures the village of federal assistance in case of disaster. Residents are reminded they cannot begin any construction without a building permit. Failure to obtain a permit will result in a fine, one half what the permit would cost, plus, a permit would still have to be bought. The raft is being fixed and a new raft installed. As soon as it's ready, it will be put into the water. TEEN DANCE POSTPONED Due to inability to get a band, the teen dance scheduled for June 21 has been canceled. Apparently, there are no young aspiring musicians looking for a job around here. The dance will be held if, and when, a band is available. HOBBY NIGHT Lots of interesting hobbies were displayed at the meeting of the Ladies of the Lake, June 12. Twenty-one members were there and most brought something, including jewelry, afghans, quilts, plants and macrame. * The ladies decided to have their bake sale on Thursday, July 3. It will be from 9:30 a.m. till 1:30 p.m. at the beach house. Donations will be ap preciated, and anyone wishing to donate baked goods can call Barb Reiter (385-7505) who will arrange to pick it up. "TOWN AND COUNTRY" Jim and Joan Bitterman and Armando Gomez are all taking part in the "Town and Coun try" show, being put on by parents of Montini school children. It will be held in St. Patrick's school, June 20 and 21, also June 27 and 28, and is one of the biggest en tertainment projects ever presented in this area. Tickets are available in many local business places, or residents can purchase them from the Bittermans who'll be selling them, too. The ceremony will be con ducted at 1 p.m. on the campus of Rock Valley college by members of the Third In fantry's Old Guard, often referred to as "The President's Own." The Old Guard's ap pearance - one of the few scheduled for Illinois this year - - will salute the - Army's house Tuesday, June 24, for the first craft making session for the bazaar. Bring whatever materials you can, including old Christmas cards, scissors, pinking shears, ribbon, sequins, felt, ric rac, and scraps of material. The gals plan to meet every two weeks to get things ready, but if not enough members show up to help, there won't be a bazaar. SYMPATHY Condolences to the Fer nandez family on the death of Mrs. Fernandez' brother, Louro Dillareal. Mr. Dillareal, a one time McCullom Lake resident, died June 3. Mr. and Mrs. Fernandez went to Texas where the funeral was held, and just recently returned home.
