BY Producers who wish 1975- crop storage loans for corn, wheat, oats, and other small grains except for soybeans, must ' meet eligibility requirements, said Jim Lucas, county executive director, McHenry County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation service. "To obtain U.S. Department of Agriculture loans for com modities stored on the farm, producers have to make written certification at the local ASCS office on the quantity of •the commodities to be placed under loan/' Lucas said. "Farm storage loans will be made on 90 percent of the certified quantity of grains, and 85 percent on ear corn and peanuts. The producer will be responsible for safekeeping and for maintaining quantity and quality of farm-stored com modities. After a loan is made, an ASCS official will randomly inspect storage structures and measure the commodity against the producer's cer tification." Lucas said producers who warehouse their commodities off the farm will be required to present a receipt showing that warehouse storage charges have been prepaid, or arrangements made for payment, through the loan maturity date. "We're telling farmers about requirements again this year because of expected high production", Lucas said. The certification farm storage loan program started ex perimentally in 1972 and '73 and went , r^ation-wide in 1974. Farmers didn't learn much about it in 1974 because of low production and small usage of the-program. Producers who are interested in further details should contact the ASCS office, he said. insight J AROUND II BILLION BUSHELS OF by Larry Swaim CAN CONSCIENCE BE TRUSTED? (Q) '"Dear Mr. Swaim: I have tried to follow my con science and let it be a good guide for me. Yet I find myself continually doing things I know are wrong. Can one's con science be a safe guide?" (A) The conscience can be a safe guide only if it has been properly educated and is compatable with the will of God. A conscience cannot be a safe guide unless that conscience is constantly monitored by the word of God. The Bible teaches that we are to be judged by the word, and not by our own thoughts. It is essential, then, that we con tinually study the word of God to find out how to* live. (RTE. 120)McHENRY ILL. 1 wjiiooiH innnnnfin n r i conscience, when well- educated by the word, will be a safe and good guide for us. When a person learns and realizes that he stands guilty before God, condemned as a sinner, he suffers a troubled and guilty conscience-a sense of moral responsibility with which every human is born. It will give him no peace until he has done the right thing and removed what is bringing about his guilt. The conscience is part of each of us and must be well- disciplined and educated. If we are willing to take the time and expend the energy to study God s word, then probably our consciences, or good sense, will help us to do what is right.
