Expert "Gear Jammers" and ' 'Throttle Benders" will stage deliberate crashes. Men and women with plenty of nerve and a lust for thrills will compete for the cash prize and trophies. * The participants must supply their own cars. The car must be equipped with a safety seat belt, and the driver must wear an approved crash helmet. Official rules and entry blanks may be obtained from the fair office on the fairgrounds; „ from Jim Pedersen; or from many gas stations and garages in the county. All participants must be over 21 or have a notarized release signed by their parents. Only American-made, hardtop automobiles are eligible. No special bumpers or reinforcements will be per­ mitted. The spectators are urged to cheer for their favorite drivers. The event has been described by one newspaper editor as the "Wildest", most spectacular sporting event in the world. Because of the nature of the event, no spectators will be permitted in the infield. Therefore, they are urged by officials to come early to get a choice seat in the grandstand. All the excitement gets under way at 8 p.m. Aug. 3 when the McHenry County Fair presents the deadly and dangerous Demolition Derby. Wonder Lake Team In Lake Zurich Youth All-Star Tourney The annual Lake Zurich Youth Baseball Association major league all-star tour­ nament will get under way in Lake Zurich's Lions' field Monday, July 28, with a double header featuring Lake Zurich vs. Lake-in-the-Hills and Wonder Lake vs. Barrington. In other first round action Tuesday, July 29, Cary will face Tsalnd Lake and Spring Lake will meet Fox River Grove. The dates and pairings were announced by Gerald Greaves, LZYBA tournament director. Jim Meyers of Hettermanns led his team past Hautzinger Concrete by the score of 6-1 winning track by scoring enough runs by the 3rd inning to beat Fox Lake by the score of 15-6. That guts Hettermanns into a tie for 1st place with Apple Inn with a record of 10 wins and 2 losses. Thursday night it was doubtful if we would get in any games, but we were lucky to get in one game. It rained throughout the game but Old Bridge and Hautzinger con­ crete played through it and Hautzinger concrete ended up winning the game by the score of 10-2. Jakes •4 8 Hettermanns beat the Fox Teko's 2 9 Lake Merchants to keep on the Coppermine 1 10 The McHenry high school 1975-76 Cheerleading squad just finished (June 22-26) a very successful week at Normal Illinois Redbird Cheerleading camp. The girls represented McHenry through five days of camp and competition along with 65 other squads. The daytime camp sessions included workshops for lear­ ning cheers, tumbling, pom­ pom routines and afternoon lectures. Night sessions were set aside for competition of what had been learned during the day. Both the basketball and wrestling (combined for football) squads did very good at competition. Three out of four nights both squads received blue superior ribbons. The spirit stick, which is considered by the instructors as the most important award. was awarded to both squads every single night. One night was skit night. Our skit was worked around the expert baton twirling of Dawn Welch and was a real hit. Another honor for our squad was received when Kristy Day was chosen to model for the Cheerleader's Fashion show. At the end of the week ten squads are chosen to compete for the Award of Excellence. McHenry's basketball squad was, chosen for this com­ petition. Joliet Catholic won the award. Norton's car (suffered steering failure as he roared down the straightaway for the start of the 15-lap main event and his car roared straight pff the end of the track. Norton barely got the car stopped -before it (fame to a massive steel retaining rail. "I was lucky that I qualified well," he said later. "I was at the very back of the starting field, and so I didn't have a lot of cars around me when the steering went out. If I had been in the middle of the pack, there would probably have been a serious pileup".
