On The Sidelines by Dick Rabbitt Well like everyone has been saying, it's been a short summer. So here we are ready to kick off another athletic season at McHenry high school. Coach Chuck Cuda's golf team will have played a match with Grant by the time you read this, and "Hutch's" "Running Warriors" will have opened the season at Schaumburg against the host school and Prospect. \ The Warriors of Coach Bill Day open up at home tonight against North Chicago, and the sport season is off and running. All the fall coaches are looking forward to banner seasons, and we wish them the best of-luck. . A couple of items that may be of'interest to you fans. The North Suburban Conference began their football practice on Aug. 18, rather than the state opening date of the 13th. The coaches felt that the later starting date, gave them ample time to get ready for the season, which opens this weekend. I'm sure the boys appreciated a few extra days off from the double sessions. A couple of rule changes in football, as I mentioned last spring, spearing is outlawed, and expulsion from game on first offense. Also this year only three time outs per half instead of four. Should speed up the game some. Noticed at the soap bowl the other night a lot of penalties, because of mouthpieces not being worn. This is a must, every player must have his in place at the start of the play. That was the delay of game penalty that was called quite frequently last Friday night. McHenry high graduates who are away at college this fall, Kenne Ludwig and Marty Zeller are attending New Mexico Military at Roswell, New Mexico. I understand both have lost their locks of hair, and are sporting nice crewcuts. Ron Stine is attending Greenville college and will partake in the roundball sport. Likewise Steve Kasprzyk who will attend Eureka college. Roger Ludwig is attending Elmhurst college after spending two years at Olney Junior college. Ev Klapperich is on the football squad at Eastern Illinois U at Charleston, and Bob Eppel and George Hansen are on the squad at Augustana college in Rock Island. I'm sure in the weeks to come we will have more names to add to the list. Let's start the season out right by attending the various athletic events, if it is at all possible. I'm sure the golfers and cross country runners would appreciate you coming out to watch them perform, as well as the football squads. Tied for second place at 31 under was the team of Dick Warfield.
