High School Golfers Beat Mundelein 159-169 By Dick Rabbitt Coach Cuda's McHenry high golf squad continued on their winning ways last Thursday with a win over Mundelein 159 to 169. ,, Scoring for McHenry were Lowell Kivley with a nifty 38. followed by Bob Lunkenheimer with a 39. Others were Bob Buenzli with a 40, Tim Beryers a 42, and Tom Pepping with a 43. The sophs also won, defeating Mundelein 168 to 192, McHenry scoring was as follows: Mike w< ( lure a 40, Steve Knox a 42, and Jim Buenzli and Ron Pepping each with a 43. On Saturday the local golf squad will be entered in the Third Annual Irving Crown Open to be held at Randall Oaks Coif course. Twenty teams will participate. With the golf season slowly approaching a close, it should be good com­ petition lor the Warrior golf squad in preparation for not only the conference meet, but also the state series in October. The following schools will be participating in the tournament this year: Cary-Crove, Crystal Lake, Dundee, Elrpwood Park, Elgin, Grayslake, Clenbard North, Geneva, Hampshire, Hoffman Estates, Larkin, Lake Zurich, McHenry, Maine North, Mundelein, Ridgewood, Schaumburg, Wauconda, West Chicago and Crown. MCHS Field Hockey Girls Defeat Dundee Team 2-0 After last week's frustrating 0-0 tie with non-conference Grayslake, the McHenry girls traveled to D^idee and promptly proceeded to take command throughout the match. The McHenry girls were impressive offensively as well as defensively which sparked the 2-0 win, in the conference opener. Excellent offensive play by left inner Kathy Rogers and left wing Mary Elliott turned in respective first and second half goals for McHenry. Leading the offense were center forward Diane Eschner along with right wing Cathy Lauer and right inners, Denise Hughes and Joan Lingeman. Playing super defense was left fullback Eileen Connell and right fullbacfc Ginny Lauer, goalie Janet McKinley, center halfback Taina Olsen, left halfback Gigi Smith and right halfback Lisa Olsen. In the Grayslake game, Denise Hughes replaced in­ jured Janet McKinley while second half action saw Tina Licastro replace Lisa Olsen as right halfback and Jodie Gibson took over left inner for Kathy Rogers. Other valuable team members include: Jill Freund, Deb Dercole, Cassie York, Linda Lossman, Donna Lasko, Ann Hickey, Janet Lienhard and manager Jan Novak. Coaching the girls is Miss Cis Morner who along with the team is looking forward to the first IHSA State Field Hockey tournament Nov. 14 and 15. McHenry Girls Swim Team Opens Season The McHenry girls swim team opened their season at home on Tuesday, Sept. 16, against Stevenson high school in Prairie View. Although the final score was McHenry-65, Stevenson-94, several McHenry girls did an outstanding job. Vicki Roth placed first in the 200 yd. Individual Medley and the 500 yd Freestyle,while Lori Blankenhorn took 1st in the 100 yd. Breaststroke. Second places went to Colleen Tr- anberg in both the 100 and 200 yd. Freestyle events, Miki Collins for the 50 yd. Freestyle and Sue Worzala in the 100 yd. Backstroke event. The 200 Medley Relay team of Worzala, Blankenhorn, Tammie John­ son, and Mary Folliard and the 400 Free Relay team also took 2nd's. Individual 3rd places went to Lucy Hawkins (Diving), Tammie Johnson (100 yd Butterfly), and Miki Collins (100 yd. Breaststroke). The 400 Free Relay team of Liz Dolby, Jan Atchison, Lynda Lindberg, and Mary Seaver also took a 3rd place. Other participants in the meet were: Karen Anderson, Tammie Bieschke, Rondi Cunat, Sue Stowall, Sandy Janke, Katie Hignight, Theresa Bade, Vicki Raab, Liz Hignight, Linda Marvin, and Lynn Borowski. Warrior supporters are always welcome, and tlje ad­ mission to swim meets is FREE. Montini Mustangs The Montini Mustangs won their first football game Thursday, Sept. 18 by defeating Countryside 41-6. The victory was led by the fine play of quarterback Tim Sabatka and running backs Tom Balchunas and Mike Sharp. Balchunas scored 4 touchdowns and Sharp scored 1. Leading flag-getters on defense were Sean Haley with 6 and Dan Coughlin with 4. Ron Waytula had 2 in­ terceptions and returned 1 for a touchdown. Phil Schmitt also had an interception. Four people showed their ability in picking up splits: Bob Ryner, 5-7; Barb Miller, 5-10; Carolyn Buittner, 5-7-9; Roy Homo, 4-7-9.
