Organization of the McHenry Junior college commercial courses was effected Tuesday evening in the high school. Students have enrolled for courses in advanced typing. advanced shorthand, secretarial studies, business English, elementary^tvping and elementary bookkeeping. Axel Bolvig, 41 years old, who resided on the old Brott farm in Bull Valley, west of McHenry where he raised foxes, died in the Woodstock hospital Monday afternoon from injuries received when he was struck two hours earlier by a fast train on the crossing in Woodstock. Miss EllenSmithof Ringwood and Mr. William Wurtzinger of Woodstock were married in Chicago .at the Holy Rosary rectory by Father Will Desmond on Saturday af­ ternoon. A reunion which brought back vivd memories of World War II. The reunion was for the members of the seventh ar­ mored division from all parts of the nation. A tractor was completely destroyed by fire last Monday morning at the Wilfred Blake residence east of the city. A spark ignited the gas when the motor was started inside the tool shed. Rehearsals are now in progress for the annual Junior class play to be presented Nov. 10. Thomas Jones, a new member of the faculty, acts as director. A lovely wedding was solemnized in St. Patrick's church, Oct. 4, when Miss Marie Powers became the bride of Mr. George Larkin. Rev. Fr. Edward C. Coakley officiated at the service. Walter H. Hopkins of McHenry, director of the Bakers of America program, will be one of the speakers at the American Bakers Association annual convention to be held at the Hotel Sher­ man. Chicago, Oct. 13 to 18. Mrs. Bernard Kennebeck was hostess to the adult Girl Scout association at her home on Riverside drive, Oct. 2. The officers of the group are Mrs. Avis Gans, president, Mrs. Minnie Green, secretary, treasurer, and Mrs. Agnes Buch, publicity chairman. Rev. Fr. Beauvais officiated at the Mass. Burton G. Skemp of Villa Lane, McHenry, a McHenry resident for twelve years, died Sept. 25 Wesley Memorial hospital, Chicago, at the age of 78. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wiedrich became the parents of a son at ' the McHenry hospital, Sept. 21. There will be a model air­ plane contest at the McHenry V.F.W. Oct. 3. The age group will be junior 17 and under. Two students at McHenry high school have been honored with letters of commendation for their high performances on the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) given last spring. They are among 38,000 students across the nation recognized for scoring the top per cent of students who will complete high school in 1966. Principal Marvin Martin has announced that the commended students are Paul A. McDonald and Glen R. Olsen. Attorney and Mrs. R.A. Stueben have just returned from a very enjoyable twenty- six day trip to Europe in which they visited Germany, Austria, Italy, Denmark, England and France.
