On The Sidelines by Dick Rabbltt Last Friday night the Barrington Broncos showed us why they are still the team to beat in the North Suburban. Tlieir overall team speed is something every coach would like to have on his team. They block, they tackle, they do everything right. For those of us who saw them perform, we have to give credit where credit is due. They are just a darn good high school football team, and the Warriors ran into tnem on probably one of their better nights. Tomorrow the Warriors travel to Crown for a game in the new Crown Bowl. From all reports this is a fine natural bowl, and every seat is excellent for watching a game. Let's support the Warriors tomorrow at Crown. Dave Derdegan from Richmond-Burton High School is ^ county cross country champ. Dave is the only representative from Richmond, and is usually seen running at various meets around the county. Although his score doesn't count, Dave has won a lot of meets in the county this year. His time of 15:20.5 is a new county record. Last year Dave placed in the two mile run at the State Meet for the smaller schools. A couple of apologies are in order as it seemed I goofed somewhere along the way the past several weeks. I want those involved to know that it was a pure oversight on my part, and it was not my intention to overlook any of these people. fi First, the offensive line of the Warriors who played a whale of a game against the Tigers of Crystal Lake, and didn t do too bad a job against the Broncos last Friday night. Tommy Lundelius, Craig Smith, Mike Mai, Bill Mahon, Don Rice, Bill Hurckes, Bill Dodge, Brett Decker, Gary Rosing, and Dave Kuechel. To you fellows, keep up the good work, and blast Crown off the field tomorrow afternoon. My second apology goes to many people that space will not permit mentioning their names. To the gallant people who put on the super halftime shows at McCracken Field. The band under John Leighty who put many hours of practice into their routines, likewise the Pom Pom girls, with their precise marching, and these beautiful girls can really step them off. To the wonderful cheerleaders who keep the student section alive with their enthusiasm, and to those students who braved the stares of the crowd, to start the night off with the singing of the National Anthem. To all of you people, I'm sorry I have neglected you in the past, but please keep up the good work. Best wishes are in order for Coach Chuck Cuda and Bill Hutchinson, who are taking their respective squads into state competition. Coach Cuda and his golfers will be at Fox Bend Golf Course in Oswego for the Sectional Meet today. A high finish here could send the Coach and his squad to Champaign next week for the State Finals. And "Hutch's" boys will be at Schaumburg tomorrow for the District Cross Country Meet. Once again the local squad will be in tough competition. Fremd and Palatine are just a couple of the powerhouses the Warriors will face in the District A letter received last week from Northland College states that Dave Dulberg former Warrior is a regular tackle on the team. His coach mentioned that Dave played / the finest game he ever saw for a lineman last week in a winning effort. Our congratulations go to Dave for a fine effort, and hope he keeps up the good work for Northland. The Warrior J.V. football team defeated the Barrington J.V. squad Monday morning by the score of 8 to 6. It was the only win for the Warriors teams over Barrington the past weekend. And Zion's loss to Lake Forest by the score of 35 to 14 last Saturday has some kind of local flavor. It was the ZeeBee's homecoming. The Warriors are not the only team to lose the big homecoming game. Last year I made a mis take on my 1974 tax return and had to pay additional Itaxes plus interest. Can I de duct the interest on this year's return? A. The interest you pay on late taxes is deductible. It is considered personal interest even if it is related to your trade or business. You can deduct it on Schedule A of Form 1040 only when you itemize your personal deduc tions. However, any penalty you are assessed for the late tax is not deductible. Other types of deductible interest are mortgage interest, "points" if you are a buyer, mortgage prepayment penalty, separately stated finance charges, bank credit card plan interest and note discount interest. Q. I owed payments on a new car, but my uncle oaid the balance of the debt for me. Must I report this as tax able income? A. A cancelled debt or debt paid by another person is gen erally income to the debtor, unless the cancellation, or the payment, is intended as a gift. The intent of the other party determines whether the pay ment or cancellation is a gift. Q. My mother is a dependent and lives in our house. She has arthritis and on her doc tor's advice we installed an elevator and other special equipment in the house. Can we deduct the installation and maintenance costs of this equipment as medical ex penses? A. Special equipment and im provements installed on a doc tor's advice for medical pur poses may be deductible. The amount you can deduct de pends on the nature ot tnes>e improvements. If they are per manent improvements and in crease the value of your home, they will be allowed as medi cal expenses only to the ex tent that the cost exceeds the increase in the value of your home. For example, if instal ling the equipment costs $3000 and competent apprai sals determine the value of your home has increased by $2000, the remaining $1000 is a deductible medical ex pense. -- NEW ENGLAND PATR/OTS HAVE A RECORD - S E T T E R I N 5 ' 5 " / # f IMACK H0N0N HE PLAYED 2 YEARS IN CANADA.
