As divisional winners, Redmond, Miss Peas and Miss Walker each will receive a $500 bond. All four top essays, with photos of the authors, will be published in the 1975-76 Illinois Blue Book. The Bicentennial Committee, a blue ribbon citizens group of Illinois business, professional and civic leaders, chose the winners from among 72 finalists - three each from twenty-four congressional districts. More than 300,000 Illinois boys and girls participated in the essay contest on the theme "What Is the Spirit of '76?"
