You're a White Sox fan aren't you?" Now. it's this way. We have a niece (and Godchild) named Cathy Miller who married an Irishman named O'Leary and moved to Waukegan. It startled us. Then we "* recovered and identified our caller. She is Mrs. Phil Miller. Her father is "Steiny" and his father is Gene Miller. Now, we knew her. Cathy attended the drawing, met the great White Sox shortstop Bucky Dent, and came home with his autograph. She is a Sox fan all the way. Now if she can convert her husband, who is said to have leanings toward the Cubs. Hadn't seen the Tom Mur- phys for some time so drove to their establishment in beautiful downtown Volo on Tuesday. Forgot they hung out the CLOSED sign on Tuesday so will try another day. It is late again. And tired out after watching that sixth game of the World Series. After watching those never - say-die Boston Red Sox win in 12 innings, we are tempted to phone John Busscher and ask him if he wants to pay off his bet. This has been a great series between two fine teams. Some of the plays have been strictly big leauge. Just when you think a hero can be named, another comes along to steal the show. Except for the first game in which "Looee" Tiant hurled so masterfully, we haven't seen the great pitching seen in some past series. Whoops! Seems there was a fellow named Don Gullet. But, we have seen a record number come in from the bull pen. Some of the players must have record chaws of tobacco, bubble gum or something in their mouths. Pitching and hitting, Fielding and spitting. Saw one lonely robin in our back yard this morning. He must have missed the last train for Flordia. EAT THOSE WORDS-- On Tuesday, before the sixth game of the World Series, Junior Freund asked, "Well, are you going to watch the last game of the Series tonight?" Oh, what we have to put up with! ( , • Turkey Shoot - The McHenry Sportsman's Club members will sponsor their annual turkey shoot next Sunday, Oct. 26. They will welcome you. It's all over! Tonight Vs, Lake Forest By Dick Rabbitt The McHenry high Warriors will take to the home field tonight for their final home game of the season. The Lake Forest Scouts will be the op- ponertt. The Scouts are currently tied for second place in the North Suburban with Barrington and Libertyville, and will be looking to keep their hopes alive for a berth in the state playoffs with a win over the Warriors. Coach George Barry has only five returning lettermen from last year's sixth place club, but evidently found some people to fill in the holes, and they are riding high this season. Two weeks ago they knocked off Zion 35 to 14, and last week defeated North Chicago 35 to 13. Tom Trkla, a 6'3" 195 lb., quarterback, is the key to the Scout wishbone offense. Rich Hillard, Jeff Nigro and A1 Bussone round out the back- field. The interior of the Scout line is manned by Ed Nolan, Dave Cowan, Jay Schneider, and Brett Moore. The Warriors of Coach Bill Day have had good practice sessions this week. Although they had a letdown against Crown in tKfe second half, they still managed to come out with a victory and no serious in juries. Friday night will not only be their final game at home, but will also be Parents' Night, when the parents of the varsity players and cheerleaders will be honored. Those seniors who will be trotting out on the MacCracken Field gridiron for the last time are: Jeff Damiani, Don Rode, Tom Ludwig, Bill Dodge, Jim Engmark, Gary Rosing, Bill Mahon, Tim Fink, Dave Christopher, Bob Haag, Gary Schweder, Guy Miller, Gary Olson, Craig Smith, Brett Jackson, Paul O'Malley, and Brett Decker. The crystal ball was good to me last week, with the upset win of Libertyville over Barrington I finally picked them all. This week is another tough one in the North Suburban. I'll pick Lake Forest over our Warriors, and Dundee to beat the Tigers on Friday night. Barrington in a tough one over Mundelein, Libertyville over Crown, and Zion over North Chicago. Hurricane Cross - Country Squad Finishes Strong The Marian Central Hurricanes recorded their best record ever as they finished their Frosh-Soph season last week with a strong showing in the West Suburban Catholic Conference meet. This season the Hurricanes concentrated their strength on the Frosh- Soph level because of the low turnout on their varsity. The young 'Canes finished third in the Conference with a 5- 2 record and a non-conference record of 7-0. Pacing the Hurricanes throughout the season have been Sophomores Mike O'Leary, Bruce Davis, Tony McCormack, Mike Gallagher, Pete Wilt, Mark Streit, Ernie Pieroni, Bill Johnston, Jim Wichman, and Freshman Darryl May, Fran McCormack, and Bill Meric. Varsity runners included Miles Witz, Chris C.owley, and Joe McCormack. Highlighting the season's end was the showing of Darryl May in the West Suburban Catholic Conference meet last weekend. Young May became the first cross-country runner in the history of Marian Central to capture first place in a W.S.C. conference meet. He toured the three mile Marmion course in 16:41 to easily grab the in dividual championship. Commenting on the season, Coaches Hans Rokus and Tom Blenner stated, "We are very proud of our young men's ac complishments. We captured our first team trophy in the Wauconda Invitational and placed very high in the Warren Invitational and Kaneland Invitational also. Our over-all record of 12-2 was the result of some hard work and dedication and we are hopeful of building on the success of our Frosh- Soph level into varsity com petition next year. And we are also especia'ly proud of fresh man Darryl May who won the conference Frosh-Soph title." Rich Rosing Hole-In-One Rich Rosing recently had a hole-in-one at Crystal Lake Country club's 11th hole while playing in a golf match for McHenry County college. Although the Boston Red Sox took them right down to the final out, those Cincinnati Reds were not to be denied. Now we will have to listen to those National League fans for another year.
