On The Sidelines by Dick Rabbltt The Warriors picked up their 4th win of the season at Crown last Saturday. On a cold windy day the Warriors held off a Crown rally in the second half, after dominating the first half of {day. It looked like two different teams on the field. Let's hope they put two good halves together tonight against Lake Forest. Nineteen penalties were called in the game, which must be some kind of a record. The Warriors won the toss and elected to receive. But to the surprise of everyone, Crown elected to kick into a strong wind Result was that the Warriors had two first period touchdowns. The emotion of homecoming plus the large crowd on hand must have confused the Crown captains. Do think that the officials should do a better job of explaining the options to the teams. Remember these are high school boys, and they do get excited just before a game. It has come to my attention that the North Chicago win over Crown at the Warhawk homecoming was the only homecoming win by a North Suburban team this season. The Warriors weren't alone in their homecoming loss. Hutch's "Running Warriors" are at the Sectional tomorrow in Lake Forest. A high finish here could send the team to Champaign next week for the State Finals. Andy Oakley finished 4th in the district. Best wishes are in order to Hutch and his squad. Congratulations are in order to Ken Street, a former Warrior who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout last week. Ken had 27 Merit Badges, and started his scouting at the age of 8. Ken applied himself, and worked his way up throw0i the ranks. His parents, George and Amy Street, have every reason to be proud of Ken. Ken is a freshman at Northland college, Ashland, Wisconsin and is majoring in Forestry. As you remember last year Tommy Hutchinson, son of Bill and JoAnn Hutchinson, also received the rank of Eagle Scout. Both of these boys deserve a lot of credit for the honors they received. More bouquets are in order. One of my Sunday morning golfing partners, Stan Aim, had a hole in one on number ten at Chapel Hill last week. Why couldn't he do it when he was my partner? Will Farrell a fellow teacher bowled a nifty 257 game last week in the Teacher's League. He still hasn't come down to earth. On behalf of the McHenry high school Athletic department and the golf team, thanks are in order to Vale Adams and fellow members of McHenry Country club. They helped Coach Cuda and his squad in so many ways that it is impossible to mention all of them. Not many high school golf teams have the honor of playing at such a fine Country club. Most of the schools play at daily fee courses, and are not what you would call in the best of shape. I'm sure Coach Cuda and his team appreciated the fine efforts of the club membership for their outlook on high school golf. An old friend Jobbie Eismerman, father of Jerry of Parkland, a long time high school official who worked many a game at McHenry was recently elected to the Lake Forest college Hall of Fame. The honor could not come to a finer gentleman. Barrington's Gary Hallberg, defending state champion, in a fit of rage last week, threw his putter and broke it. F jtting with a 2 iron the remaining 13 holes he shot a 79 and didn't qualify for the state meet. It has to be quite a disappointment for Gary, as last summer he took second in a National tourney. , Giving last minute assistance to Karen Hanahan of McHenry, are Glen Luck, Marengo; and Steve Murray, Fox Lake. Marian Outdoor Club In Sparta To Elroy Bike Trail Ride On the weekend of Oct. 4-5, ninety Marian Outdoor Club members and chaperones participated in the annual Fall Bike Trip to Sparta, Wis. On this trip students left on buses from Marian at 6 a.m., with their bikes carried along in U- Haul trucks. The actual bike riding was done on the famous Sparta-Elroy Trail which consists of 32 miles of old railroad lines that have been converted into a hard packed gravel bike trail. Outdoor Club members spent about six hours on the trail riding through the rolling hills of central Wisconsin. An ob vious bonus to this trip was the excellent weather and beautiful Fall colors. Other activities on the Sparta trail included the exploration of three tunnels built by the railroad during the 1880's. The trail is so con structed that the riders must pass through all these tunnels, including one that is over three- quarters of a mile long. An advantage to the trail that is greatly appreciated by the riders is that because it was originally a railroad, all the FORMAL WEAR RENTAL for ALL OCCASIONS eSt&syi j21^j^rje^^jicHeray I Coast Guard t CLEVELAND, Oct. 17 -- When someone buys a new boat or marine engine, he usually does not think of anything going wrong with it. It is only after the "new" has worn off that he begins to worry about his rights to consumer protection. This effect often leads new pur chasers to neglect to fill out and mail the warranty registration card that usually accompanies such equipment. The truth is that the warranty registration card serves more than one function. The first is the obvious, to start the warranty provided by the MCHS Harriers At Crystal Lake Tuesday For Conference Meet By Dick Rabbitt The "Running Warriors" of Coach Bill Hutchinson will be one of the pre-meet favorites Tuesday at the North Suburban Meet to be held at Veterans Acres in Crystal Lake. The 1975 North Suburban Conference Championship Cross Country Meet will be held at Veteran Acres Park in Crystal Lake. The course is a measured three miles and the course record is 15:02.7 set in 1973 by Arnie Jackson from Schaumburg High School. The Games Committee is composed of the coaches of the odd numbered school for 1975 and the host Athletic Director: manufacturer. The second, and less obvious, is that it provides the manufacturer with a list of "first purchasers" in order to comply with the Coast Guard Boating Safety Standards Regulations. The second function of the warranty registration card may well be more important than the first as it provides the new owner protection from safety related defects for the life of the boat or motor. This is because manufacturers are required by federal regulation to correct any defect that presents "a substantial risk of personal injury to the public", regardless of the expiration date of the issued warranty. The Coast Guard periodically issues notices of defect recall campaigns in progress to assist the owners of affected boats and equipment to be aware of the danger and the campaign to correct it. However, if the manufacturer has the warranty registration card for the af fected equipment on file, he will notify the owner and assure that the proper corrective action is taken. In order for the consumer to get the best protection possible, he should make a point of filling out and mailing the warranty registration card that ac companies his new boat oi motor. This action puts him or the "first purchaser list" anc insures that he will be notified in case something is found to be wrong so he can get the needed correction. GJ After losing four of his top six players to graduation, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville golf coach Harry Gallatin worried about his team's inexperience this fall. He shouldn't have been concerned. Last weekend, the Cougars completed an excellent season, finishing with SIUE's lowest team average ever for a fall season. The Cougars had a combined 75.2 average. Final standing will be based on total points earned in dual meets and the conference meet.
