At the fall banquet of the Peoria school's Alumni "B" club, he was presented the Watonga award which signifies academic excellence and athletic success. He also was named Bradley's Outstanding Athlete 1974-75. Originally from Niles, Les graduated in May with a Bachelor's degree in ac counting. As a guard on the Bradley basketball team he set game, season and career assist records for the Braves of Joe Stowell. His 218 assists last season was a national high. "He was unsoughNafter when he came," Athletic Director Chuck Orsborn said during the presentation ceremonies. "But with the ability he had, from the time he came to the time he left, he probably achieved more than anybody we've had here in a long time." The 5-10, 160-lb. playmaker from Notre Dame high school broke into the Bradley lineup as a junior and remained a starter. He traveled to Brazil as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference All-Star team a year ago and played in Knergy Fair The University .of Illinois Agriculture Engineering department will be one of several exhibitors at the Energy Fair the McHenry County Defenders are spon soring Thursday, Nov. 6. Rabbit Show The fifty-second annual convention and show of the American Rabbit Breeders association is set for Nov. 10-13 at the State Fair Park in West Allis (Milwaukee suburb), Wis. Write Donna Stanelle, Route 1, Box 87, Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin for details. Volunteers Help Out Our office is very busy now preparing 4-H certificates, medals, and 4-H show premiums. Members will receive these awards at their local club achievement programs held during November and December. Jan Sherwin and Joann Harrison have been a big help in preparing these materials for the clubs. This work is over and above the work they already do as adult volunteer 4-H Leaders. Youth Explore Personal Space Creating comfortable casual living space is a challenge for 4- H members enrolled in 4-H home environment projects. Youth are naturally curious about and interested in the space around them. Therefore, the home environment projects, such as home fur nishings. flower arranging, and arts and crafts, help 4-H members discover new things about the space they share with family and friends. Since there are no "right" or "wrong" ways to use space, 4-H members can have fun developing their surroundings. And a home environment project need not cost a lot of money. Some of the activities members can do include using needlecraft to^make room accessories, studying different periods of furnishing, learning to restore "retired" furniture, learning about renting an apartment, studying the flow of traffic in the home to improve furniture arrangements, or planning an outdoor living area Young people interested in learning more about their living space or how to join a 4-H club should contact me at the county Extension office, 11909 McConnel road, Woodstock. If you're closing up a vacation home for the winter, turn off the furnace and water heater to save energy and money. But be sure to carefully drain all water systems and water and steam heating systems ~ or pipes or equip ment may be damaged with the coming of freezing weather. three post-season games last spring. Les is the son of Mr. and Mrs Richard Les of Niles. A new era in home climate control begins About forty-five years ago, scientists began developing a revolutionary heat ing device that uses the heat of the earth's atmosphere. They called it a heat pump. Today, it is the only commercially available heating system that provides an answer to shrinking supplies of fuel oil and gas. How the heat pump works. Basically, the heat pump moves heat from one place to another. Using elec tricity to run the device, it extracts heat from a limitless source--the heat in out door air. During winter, enough heat remains in the air--even on the coldest and cloudiest days--to be extracted by the pump and transferred indoors as clean, flameless heat. And during warm weather, the process automatically reverses, removing excess indoor heat and humidity--like an air conditioner. Better efficiency' In short, the heat pump does the job of both a furnace and an air conditioner. But there's an important difference. The h e a t p u m p p r o d u c e s m o r e t h a n 1 u n i t s of heat energy for every unit it consumes. That's better efficiency than any other current heating system. It&ready. It's ideal for new homes because it won't be obsolete in ten years. It's not depend ent on the fossil fuels that may not be available in the future. To the homeowner, that means significant long-term savings on heating costs. . The heat pump is a big step in the conservation of scarce fuels. And here in northern Illinois, the electricity you would use to capture the heat comes mainly from coal and nuclear energy, rather than scarce oil and gas. To get the full advantages of the heat pump, it's important to get a quality prod uct, properly installed and reliably serv iced. For the name of qualified installers in your area, call G. W. Berkheimer (Westinghouse Distrs.), (312) 374-4411, or General Electric Co., (312) 496-6356. But sometimes Sunday mornings mean a ride in the country. . . sleeping late. . . receiving guests. Something, every Sunday. Then one day, watching her trying to read, I realized that filling her mind and heart and soul is a continuous process. It can't be restricted to days of the week. So Sundays in church have become part of our life style. We all are finding new insights, strengthening our faith, discovering ourselves and God. Our little girl needs help.
