If for some reason or other you have misplaced your copy of the letter with names, etc., of the board members in our district and in the other two districts I have them all and would be happy to give any and all to you, should you contact me. The final decision will be made by the County Board of Supervisors at their meeting in the courthouse in Woodstock on Tuesday, Nov. 11. You may bring the children to con ferences1 if tou wish. They will again provide supervision in the art room for the little ones. NOVEMBER 11 Nov. 11 is the day Illinois celebrates Veterans' Day. There will be no school on Nov. II. (Hilltop) THANKSGIVING DAY Anyone planning anything -special for Thanksgiving, please share your plans with us. The new Postal Service credo just came out: "Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of ni^ht stays these couriers from the swift completion of their ap pointed rounds--so there must be some other reason." The bill provides for a two-tier system of refunds geared to container reusability. This measure would help protect our non-renewable virgin resources from depletion, conserve energy, and reduce the volume of solid wastes." The McHenry County Defenders urge consumers to purchase their beverage in returnable 'money back' bottles and to support legislation which will discourage the use of non- returnable containers. Change Date Of Well Child Clinic The monthly Well Child clinic will be held the third Tuesday in „ November, on the eighteenth, because the courthouse will be closed Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans day. The regular schedule of 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. will be resumed on the second Tuesday of each month with the December clinic. The location is the Nursing division of the Health depart ment, Room 102, in the new courthouse on Route 47, north of Woodstock. Toll-free telephone service to Veterans administration of fices is available in 312 cities and 45 states. Otter 1920s Flay For Senior Citizens Nov. 12 .Remember when "Our Hearts Were Young and Gay"? This year's fall play will bring back fond memories of the 1920's. West campus invites those who remember that era, all senior citizens and gold card holders, to a complimentary performance Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 8 p.m. in the West campus auditorium. Refresh ments will be served after the performance. The show is a delightful tale of two impetuous coeds who travel to Paris and get their first taste of independence. Starting Friday, Nov. 7, cast members will be selling tickets for the regular performance on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, November 14, 15 and 16. Each show will start at 8. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. Even if one doesn't remember the 20's first hand, he is sure to enjoy Emily and Cornelia's madcap adventures. The Veterans ad ministration's National Cemetery system consists of 103 cemeteries. Plans call for four new cemeteries in fiscal year 1976. Congratulations . . . You've earned it. You saved, worked, sacrificed and now you've got it. Now your dreams can come true. You, your family can have a good Christmas. Urge Boycott Of Non Returnable Containers "Not only does it cost almost twice as much to buy soft drinks in cans as in returnable bottles, but it also results in exploitation of our natural resources, the wasteful use of energy, and ultimately paying more to have someone dispose of the cans," states Jan Chinlund spokesman for McHenry County Defenders. " The non-returnable beverage container has had a decidedly negative impact on the en vironment, and now we can't even recycle them." The McHenry County Defenders are / .actively engaged in recycling efforts in the county and have until now been accepting the most common beverage container the bi metal can. Ms. Chinlund explains, "At this time we feel we are no longer doing the community a service in ac cepting this type of can. It is difficult and sometimes im possible to find a company that will accept them for recycling. If we are unable to find a market for the bi-metal can we must resort to sending them to a landfill for disposal. The only real solution to this problem is the elimination of this type of container and we urge all consumers to purchase their beverages in returnable bot tles." A substantial savings was demonstrated this, week by comparing prices at several area food stores. The cost of 7UP purchased in a six-pack of 12 oz. cans was 78 percent more per ounce than for 7UP pur chased in the eight pack of 16 oz. returnable bottles. For Pepsi the cost per ounce in cans was 86 percent more and for Sugar Free RC the cost in cans was 97 percent more. November is the last month the McHenry County Defenders will accept bi-metal cans. Most people are familiar with this type of can. It is used for most soft drinks and some beers. It has an all aluminum lid with a flip top opening and steel sides, identifiedtoy visual seams or by using a magnet. The steel can used for most canned goods including soups, fruits, vegetables, juices, and pet food, as well as the all aluminum can will continue to be accepted. Another approach to the problem is a mandatory beer and soft drink container refund measure. According to Burton Atwood, Defenders legislative chairman, "the Illinois Beverage Container act has been proposed and is being co- sponsored by Rep. Dan Pierce.
